Leak in the spare tire

There seems to be a leak in my P5 spare tire...a week after pumping air to 45 psi it's total inflated again...(wait...what does inflate mean? anyway you got what I said! My poor English)
So...what would be the cheapest way to get it back to working? fix the hole, replace tire, or just buy another used one? Give me an estimate on price too!

Also, how much air should I pump into the spare tire?

Thanks!

Josh

The spare tire on a protege cannot be repaired. You have to replace it, either buying a new one or getting a used one from the forum or junkyard.

As for how much air you should pump into the spare, it says on the sidewall and in the owners manual. I don't know offhand, but the pressure is fairly high. Over 45 PSI I think.

Really...I can't find the saying on the side wall...maybe I didnt look carefully enough. And the previous owner didn't give me the owner's manual. :(
So...anyone know the market price for a used one on the forum?

Keep in mind that this tire is at the very least, 4.5 years old, or as much as 7 years old, depending on when your car was made. It's very possible that this tire is beginning to dry-rot... and any used tores you find in a junkyard are likely to eventually suffer the same fate. just throwing that out there as a pssoibility.
This is a classic problem with donut spares - nobody thinks about them until they need to use it... they sit for years and years w/o any attention... and when you do need it, it's not likely to be a convenient time to have a problem w/ it, lol.
(note to self - check out spare tire)

I believe the psi is 60. Make sure that the keeper(little pin) in the valve stem is not loose and allowing the air to leak out.

what would be the symptom of a dry-out tire? Just leak air or maybe potential safety problem?
So...I don't know...a new one seems expensive...

Spares usually last a good while. Keep in mind that they are stored away from the elements and should dry out anymore than new tires on a shelf. Unless there was a water leak there shouldn't be any reason for a spare to be dry rotted. I've pulled donuts out of many cars with many years and miles and they all look brand spanking new to me.

basically if you have a leak like you say you do, a new tire would be a better choice, have a dealership (the place where they sell cars) order you a new one, it couldnt be too expensive
and if it is, it costs way less then paying for a new rim because you messed it up driving on a flat tire

oh and im not tryin to be smart in anything i say here, just i know u dont speak english to good and im trying to explain things better

Thanks for all the help! I think I will look for a good one for a decent price. If I can't find one then, I'll just buy a new one. Seems like it's around $80 on mazdapartsonline.com

Time to shop around again. :)

Geez now I know why I always have problem with my tests in class. I took a look at the spare tire again today, and two things were found:
1.There is a nail stick into the thread.
2.On the sidewall sticker it says pumps to 60 psi.
Careless mistakes again. (argh)
Well, anyway it's to be replaced.

One more question now! attention attention! :)
Where do I get rid of the bad tire?

Josh

Take it by a tire shop. They can dispose of it for you. They may charge you though (just a couple bucks).
