LCD vs. Plasma TV's and What Kind?

agreed. cartoons look good on everything. Dark scenes are what shows a tv's weaknesses or strength's.

Samsung is supposed to be releasing their slim crt this year as well. Really interested in seeing this, if anything for my pc as well.

Hey bringing back from the dead to let you guys know i went with a Sharp 37 inch lcd.....so far i'm loving it. STill trying to perfect the color's, but i'll eventually get it. Thanks for all the help guys.

THUG, what was that refurbished website u use?

I'm thinkin about going with either a 32" or 37" lcd or goin w/ the panasonic 42" plasma?
Any opinions?

Also, would it be a problem to hang either of these over a fireplace? Clearly i'm a noob...

How high is the fireplace?
I fear the LCD might have a badd off axis picture when looking at it from bellow.

LCD is probably going to be a clearer picture (depending upon resolution). I have a 42" Gateway plasma and 17" Gateway LCD and like both of them.

1)Not sure on the height of the fireplace yet. My gf just bought a house and we're moving in sometime in August. I was shopping for tvs and I just realized yesterday that the heat might ruin the tv if I mount it above the fireplace. I'll hafta go sometime and measure it.

2) Good call about the LCD. I think I'm leaning towards 2 Panasonics. The 42" Panasonic TH 42PD25U/P or the 37" Panasonic TH 37PD25U/P. Cnet gave the 42" good reviews, but the 37" might be enough for how far away we'll be sitting and its about $350 cheaper!

Thanks for the help, 1sty, you rule!

Both of those screen are nice. Panasonic really does the best job with EDTV in my opinion.

yeah i think my mind is pretty much set on either of those, but it seems to be alot more difficult to find the cheaper 37" Panasonic plasma...just gives me time to save up some money i guess

Panasonic PT-42PD3-P 42" Plasma TV
$1,594.78

Panasonic PT-37PD4-P 37" Plasma TV
$1,414.78

for the difference I would go for the 42" unless there's no space

word the cheapest i found the 42 for was at $2198, but someone at work told me they thought they saw it at BJ's wholesale for $1999.99..

are those prices from that link u posted above? cuz the cheapest i saw the 37" was from an online store for $1700 something and they didn't have it in stock... hook me up w/ where u got those prices from, i'd really appreciate it!

Oh lord, i smell an argument a brewing with a person with 8 posts comes in with a statement like that. My stand is they all have benefits and weaknesses. Plasma's greatest benefits are its cost per size and its PQ is usually better. LCD's have no burn ins, and they are made in smaller sizes plus higher resolutions. But anyway. I got my tv from http://store.yahoo.com/refurbelectronics/lc37g4u-rb.html ....everything was fine for 2 weeks but it actually started to not turn on properly. Of course its covered by the warrenty, and they are coming to pick it up and fix so i really don't mind, becuase i still saved $2000 buying refurbished.

I have a Sony 50" LCD which completely rocks. I am going to post this website and want everyone to see it if they get an opportunity. Sorry plasma owners; you lose and many of you guys with plasma info are completely wrong. Here is the website; end of discussion. http://www.cheap-plasma-tv.com/plasma-vs-lcd-tv.htmhttp://www.cheap-plasma-tv.com/plasma-vs-lcd-tv.htm

I don't know how you could conclude that one is better than the other using that website. They both have their attributes.

Yeah both of you guys are right. I was trying to make it more dramatic than what it was. Anybody who owns either or wins. Big difference between both. With the lcd in 5 years or so you have to replace just the bulb depending on wear and tear. With the plasma in 5 years or so you have to replace the entire tv. And I know this because I have talked with many people associated with electronics including televisions. (gossip) That is what they tell me but they also said for the $, the DLP is better than both.

P.S. I am new here but not in the "other" forum. Representing Illinois.
