I'm in the market for a 32 or 37 inch flat screen tv. Right now, i'm leaning towards LCD's cause i'll be playing a lot of video games and don't want burn in. However, if anyone has any experience with plasma and vouche that the burn in problems aren't sever let me know. Also, theres these two companies i found...one i heard of Westinghouse (yea they make tv's again) and one i haven't heard of BenQ. THey each have a 37" LCD comparable in price....BenQ is at $2000 and westinghouse is at like $2,300.....but i was wondering has anyone delt with these before? I saw the westinghouse at best buy and it looked fine, but the low price scares me. I think since they are just trying to get back into tv's they are starting low to attract more business. What do you guys think?

I bought an LCD projection about 6 months ago...Its perfect for what I am doing...no burn from games as of now...lots of hours played.Its only 16'' deep and its HD...Picture is beautiful!
I paid about 2g's for it...Hitachi Ultravision 42''....HHGregg...gotta love it.

burn in is bulls*** spread around by people that don't know any better.
Your not going to get burn on any conventional tv unless you leave the game on pause for months on end. You more likely to get burn in from watching the same channel every day, you know one of those channels that have their symbol in the corner 24/7 like upn is doing right now as I watch enterprise. But, that's never going to happen either.
LCD are plagued with ghosting issues as well. You better try before you buy, and watch a movie or a sports game with lots of high speed action in it.
To be honest, back on topic, i had the same dillema, not because of burn in, but because i couldn't decide which one I wanted. They both have their good/bad points. I eventually said screw it, and bought a front projector for movies and entertaining, and when the price of plasma's come down, I'll grab one of them to replace my daily tv.

Unfortunately...Plasma TV's do have burn in ,but as you stated..it does take a while ,but not months as you have said.And yes,you are more likely to burn in a channels logo before a game would burn in.Games today are made so they dont burn and my TV has a setting that helps against the ghosting...Or temporary burn in,It shifts all the pixels a pre-determined amount depending on what you set it to and how often you set it to change.My TV also has a feature to get rid of ghosts if they happen...you just set it and it automatically gets rid of them somehow.

research DLPs. thats what i think i might get.
LCDs are the best IMO. However if you can you'd be best to wait until later this year -- there are 8ms response time LCDs coming out which will take care of all ghosting issues. It's widely accepted that at 8ms response time it will match the "quickness" of even traditional tube TVs. The only other advantage that Plasma usually has over LCDs is the deeper blacks - but that definitely varies by display so simply try before you buy is the answer there.
I have a Panasonic Plasma that gets hours of Halo and we have had it for about a year now with no burning problem. I would look into the DLP but just so that you know the bulbs burn out frequently. I work at Circuit City and customers sometimes end up going through several tv's right away. Also look into the Panasonic plasma mine is 42" with edtv instead of hd picture is awesome and they run about $2400.

This 27 incher has followed my wife and I around through our last three or four moves spanning like four years or something. I just didn't want to cheap out, but f it. Prob not going to be one of my last tv's anyway. I'll get the hd or whatever is hot on the next goround. I might pickup on of those dell 42 inch plasmas w/ edtv this time

DONT GET BENQ!!! They are made like 2 hours from the border over here, and they use the shittiest of s*** materials in their TV's. A friend of mine works for a quality control compnay and gets to tour electronics factories and he said that The Benq and Onkyo factories were terrrible. No clean rooms for circuitry, no ventilation, dust EVERYWHERE...

That sony there is a direct compaible monitor to my LCD...I do like the sony a little more but I didnt know till about a week later when my buddy got his and I got to actually watch it...Very little difference,but I can tell...Most will not.

Make sure you watch fast action scenes on each LCD before you choose one. I myself can not watch any LCD that I've ever seen. The pixel lag gives me a headache after just a couple of minutes. I'm not sure how fast of pixel response time would be needed to remedy this issue, but I've yet to find an LCD that I can tolerate.
YOu are right on that...I bitched for about two weeks about the lag...then I got used toit and dont evennotice it anymore...And yes for about that two weeks...I got a headache literally....If not that then it just hurt my eyes and I had to look away.Suomi said:

Some get headaches just going to a larger screen regardless. I remember when Iwent to a 32 from a 20, the woman got headaches even then. And they were both Sony trinitrons.
Now we have a 110" 16:9 DLP FP. So, watching the 32" now is a breeze
