Took my 15 CX-5 GT in to the Mazda dealer, today since the Nav was becoming a PIA, stability wise. It would randomly lockup, requiring removal and re-insertation of the SD card.

The Service writer was a bit reluctant to update the firmware, since the system was working properly when he saw it! I gently prodded him and he finally agreed.

1st take...Too early to really tell if this solved my problem. All appeared the same as the old one, except the Voice change menu It now showed a pair of lips and my chosen voice "Samantha" was now 1st on the list instead of 3rd or 4th I believe. (never would have noticed except that I had previously been forced to scout around while trying to correct the lockups)

The new Nav firmware "seems" a bit more responsive, and so far has not locked up (drove for about 2 hrs only today). Time will tell, but the build date on my 2015 model was dated 9/2014!. That would indicate to me that its firmware had to be at least a year old and probably older!

The Nav volume was very loud,(even after adjustment to its lowest level) relative to the FM radio, which has pretty poor reception anyway. Of course the USB bug (returning to the usb stick beginning instead of picking up where it left off after unit was off) I did not expect any change since after reading here that changing out the usb module yielded no noticeable improvements . Did not wish to press my luck. While the USB bug is a PIA, I guess I can live with it, as long as I use the shuffle button; which in itself, has its own issue! Shuffle will not remain set, after the unit was powered off and restarted...BLEH. Not complaining since the system in my ex-Outback was horrendous with the voice recognition and the sound was marginal at best!!

Note: My take on the Bose system in the GT. It is decent, but not terrific as noted by others. Playing around with the tone control yielded slightly better results, and was way better that the HK system in the Outback LTD! Increasing the bass slider +1 made it a bit more "Bose Like..boomy"

My understanding is that the new firmware is supposed to make the NB1 VR more reliable. It was not perfect but was indeed better than the 2013 Subie. From what I saw, the new 2015 system in the OB was not much better either! Geez, even my old 2011 Hyundai Tucson had better VR...but I despised its ride. The CX-5 simply killed everything else that I drove, thus my decision!

Not really sure if this is the correct one?

What version do you now have?

Since the numbers are not clearly marked as firmware..the following numbers would appear to be the most relevant.
If I am incorrect, plz post which numbers denote the firmware ie: complete device number (quite long)

Anyway

At the end of device number is: (85.5)
At the end of GPS Number is: 3.3.01.06 ...My pick lol
Boot: 7786 26

Do let me know if not correct...

We had our 2015 CX-5 in today for a service, and I asked for an update on the NAV system as it had the reported delays/fixed position.

It is listed as TSB 09-020/14 TOMTOM Navigation

10.851 to 10.854 updated

I do assume you use the TomTom Home software to keep the card current? If so, the next time you update the card on your computer you could see the release of your firmware and maps in: <drive name>:\TomTom-Cfg\release.nfo
Do not open the file by double clicking because Windows computers are notoriously stupid and think this is a system information file. Please right click on the file and open in notepad and do not edit or change the file. Best is to create a backup of the current card.

What I am getting at is that we as owners, using the tools given to us by the provider TomTom do not need to wait for TSB mombo jombo like this. These updates are generally available using the tools and dealers, oh they like to try to sell you other services while you wait for the TSB firmware upgrade... The last time I was in the shop they actually rolled a computer card beside my car, looked very busy and claimed they upgraded my firmware.... Which already was upgraded.... Look the upgrade will be installed on your SD card - the next time you stick it in the car it will actually read in the firmware, there is a delta difference and it will perform an in place upgrade. It will take roughly 4 minutes for the hardware they sold us for like 700 bucks is from the early 2000's and does not load all that fast. The NAV will reboot, you lose all your preferences, set your prefs before you drive (like in Canada I like to match up kilometers to kilometers). All the other crap is really fluff because we really do not have any need for measurements of outside air pressure as our device does not even have these sensors.

After the "tremendous" help I got from Mazda Canada in the denial for 18 months on the bluetooth and usb matter and the many frustrating phone calls I have decided that I will never buy a product from this company again, take my comments with a grain of salt as I am simply bitter that a customer has to fight with a company over trivial things like this. It still is a good, solid driving car, and that is where I leave it.
