Laser/Radar detectors

http://www.guysoflidar.com/

Great website detailing each of the popular detector and jammers out there. Unbias Tests and Reviews with graphs and all that scientific mumbo jumbo. I live in Germany for now and they are BIG on photo radar and this helped me pick out the V1 EURO edition due to its KA photo band capability.

Get the new grill mounted one by Bel. It is rated very high and is affordable. Canadia cops will never know. They all seem to run VG2 cloaking now so they will never know. :-)

The trick in Canada, in case there is still paranoia that your new $500 detector will be confiscated, is to buy a dirt cheap piece of crap detector that barely works, and give that to the cop if they happen to pull you over for having a detector (making sure you hide the good detector first). The loss of the crap detector and whatever fine they give you should be less than the cost of the good detector.

In my case, I've given up on detectors. Instant-on has nailed me twice in the past, once with a detector that I thought was "invisible". The only way I'd do it now is if everything was laser, and I had a good laser jammer (since to my knowledge there are no radio jammers, or if there are it's some sort of federal violation to jam radio frequencies).

Like others have mentioned, don't be mislead into thinking that it's a magic box. It's only another tool to help you in being aware of surroundings. I have a V1 due to arrows, worth the extra dough. It's pretty useless in the city, too many false bogeys, esp. laser, much more useful on open highway.

/sigh

I wish they were legal in Canuckia. :bs:

They are legal in at least 3 jurisdictions: Alta, BC and Sask...move west, young man. As for illegal, using a remote mount detector is a fast way around that, at the cost of higher prices than windshield mount types. The Bel RX75 and Escort RS7 are quality examples.

anyone tried the passport 9500ix? my buddy had a v1 and it was more annoying than anything else. i like the idea of the gps support the escort has.
any opinions?

i still do well with my whistler XTR. it works well for the areas i drive in, but picks up everything. i would love the red light camera GPS feature, but not that big of a deal.

this one has paid for itself about 5 times already.

I have heard the 9500 is unreal great as you can teach it all the false alerts you know of and the GPS feature is just really cool anyway. All the reviews are good for it that is for sure.

So far just using my eyes and knowing where I can go 30 over (so many back roads that cops are too lazy to patrol). My dad has a V1 sitting in his glove box unopened since he drives like 10 miles under the speed limit (I get most of my habits from my mom who just supercharged her car) so I think I'm going to take that from him.

I have a V1. I've picked up state troopers on the interstate from over a mile out before. Plus, since they all have the same case design, you can update it to the latest hardware if you ever need to.
