Lancer EVO flip over video

I have only done a few Auto-X's with my old Celica, but done plenty of track time on my bike.

Question is...is drifting really the fastest way around a corner or just for show boating? I would imagine it would come in handy trying to block a pass from behind.

Huh?

No, everytime I get in my drivers seat I do not risk a crash like this, I don't drift, never have tried, so I think I'm going to be alright.

I'm very happy he chose to do that on a track, but he still was driving like a donut, and it was only a matter of time until that happened.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's OK, and kudos for doing it at a venue such as this, but it doesn't change the fact he's a dumbass for driving repeated laps like that. I'd be more impressed if he crashed doing a real hot lap.

that was really sad to watch...
those of you who are bashing this guy really need to sit back and think about what you are saying.. guess you guys never did anything like this?! You'd be lying. You are just lucky enough to not have hurt yourself or your car in the process. Every freaking time you get in the drivers seat you risk a wreck like this. Just be glad he did this on the track and not in front of you on the freeway doing 80mph, or maybe ran over your mom as she walked across the street or in a school crosswalk. It's called Hipocracy... Yeah, he prolly regrets killing his car but at least he and the co-pilot hopefully walked away. I garantee you he will be back on that track testing ther skills out. I am not trying to sound like I am all knowing but gees guys it coulda been a hell of allot worse.

In Superbike racing it's been proven to be the fastest way to get through a corner. I have a Supermotard and that thing isn't any fun unless your sliding. I'm not that wise about cars, but squaring off the corner by backing the car in lines you up for a quicker exit. Unfortunately it looks as though you either do it right and go faster or completely screw it and cost yourself more than a track position.

I don't 100% agree with that. There are some riders like McCoy and Hayden who love to slide into the corner on engine and rear break methods and others who do not ride like that. Of course sliding out of the corner on power is always going to happen but the best way and I would imagine it would be the same for a car is to have as much traction as possible to drive out of the corner once hitting the apex. Of course racing like Super Motard is a whole other ball of wax.

In the corner there should be no sliding in Superbike racing, that results on leaving the bike. Sliding on entrance and exit is a different story, but there is no way to slide throughout the entire corner with the angle of the bike like it is.

In the EVO vid, just look at the 'S'section when he's catching up to the small TVR looking car, it takes a normal line through the S and is out of frame before the EVO is even half way through because he's too busy swinging way out of the racing line.

you didn't tell the story behind it. something about the guy letting his daughter drive (notice the camera cuts and then goes to the ill fated corner) and while they switched drivers of the tires went flat or something which is why it went off the road. it wasnt driver error.

im not sure thats what i remember hearing.

omg .. that video is like over a year old.
You guys are stupid.

I guess you didn't notice there was no drifting going on when it left the track.

And I guess you've never heard of a lancer evolution before with all these comments about the big wing and stock suspension.

*yawn*

Oh I new about it, and the wing sucked just as bad then as it does now. I even get the joy of seeing the Mazdaspeeds coming into to port here in Vancouver without that godawful wing, and if I was ordering one I would definitly delete that one as well.

okay 03P5,
the ******* wing, has NOTHING to do with the car flipping over, or the driver causing an error, alright, so quit harping about a ******* peice of fiberglass, jesus christ.

He got cocky when he passed those other cars.....

Is that a race or just time trial type thing?

I am not quite sure.
You don't see other cars in that video that quite eager to get pass the others, but rather just enjoying cursing around the circuit.
If you ask me, I think those Lotus Elise has more protential winning if it was a real race.

No, I can tell you I never did anything like this. Atleast not racing "rally style" on an "on-road" track.
If you do something stupid, don't assume everybody else are the same.

What's a peice?

I did harp on the driver, but my fellow canuck was saying stuff about the wing and suspension.

Another smartass here......

See this 1983 Lancer photo here?

My dad had the same car when I was a kid.
That's even before MITSUBISHI has the Evolution version.

Don't assume anything.

Now see that 83 Lancer I like alot more than this current itteration. Old rally cars are the bomb. Did your dad let you drive it?

thats guy was a bad wanna be drifter. people were just gettin out of his sorry assed way, not getting passed by him

so what your saying is you think you can drive an evo like that...haha..right bud..that last turn just looks like a understeer **** up..it happens..get focused on the car ahead of you and you miss your entrance to a turn..no suprised it flipped..sucks though

No he didn't let me touch it.
I was only 9 at that time. :D

well the guy was doing pretty good the first lap. kinda fell off from there. but he was drifting with very little countersteer, that's quite impressive. but ya miss your braking point and well....too bad, i love the evo.
