Kumho ASX's PROBLEMS again....

Ok.. I just spent 20 minutes typing in a novel about my ASX's, and then accidentally closed the window. So, here's the cliff notes..

In 2 years, we've had 6 ASX's (205/45R-16) replaced under warranty by Discount Tire for similar abnormal inside-shoulder wear. Car was never tracked, and we took advantage of the frequent free rotations. After the last one (April 2006) we had a 4 wheel alignment done, with the only numbers out of line being front toe..

The alignment shop indicated an acceptable front toe range to be -0.10 to +0.30. Left front was -0.04, right front was 0.05 prior to alignment. Post alignment left front 0.15 and right front 0.09.

Fast forward to this weekend, and the car is suddenly showing the abnormal wear on the latest set of ASX's on the front. They were rotated in July. We took the car to Discount Tire, they took one look at them, and immediately offered free replacements. The current rears are the fronts that were replaced in April. My wife provided him with the last two years of receipts, and the tire alignment paperwork. After looking over the car, they felt that it was quite possible that the ASX's are not a good match to the car. He offered to replace them with Yoko Avid H4S's in the same 205/45-16 sizing. We are taking advantage of their offer..

Food for thought.

I'm 165# and the wife is considerably less...

Now if the Yokos start showing wear on the P5, then I'm gonna be pissed.

so, the overall experience with the asx on the protege 5 is negative.

both sets ive had have had this interior tire wear problem, even after alighnment

I have some wheels on order and they are getting wrapped with ASXs. Sounds like I should change that. What other All-Season tires with a good tread life would you recommend for under $100?

[Edit] What about the Falken Ziex ZE-512 for a daily driver?

Crap, I called up Discount Tire to switch tires, but my wheels are already in the mail. Guess I'm stuck with the ASXs. I don't drive crazy and I'm only lowered 1.4/1.2 so maybe I'll be lucky. (nailbyt)

im not modded at all, completely stock. i dont drive very aggesively, about the only thing i do is go too fast on the on ramps. Ive made sure my car was aligned, i did everything i can think of to keeop my tires wearing evenly, rotations every 3k, name it....

Now you got me thinking...these are the tires at the top of my list. Was gonna go through Discount Tire also. Guess I will have to ask some questions before buying.
