Knowing the defects, what made you buy a cx-5 still?

Forgot to mention about the windshield crack
Vehicle design can lead to more cracks than other vehicles.
I came from a jeep wrangler and they are rock magnets on the highway. I had 2 winshields in one year from road rocks or whatever. .In the jeep forum...is very common and pretty much expected.
Before them..never had a window cracked in 30 years of many types of trucks cars and suvs

Both me and my son purchased new 2014 GTs. We bought them because after test driving other cars this one was the most fun to drive and the price was better than most of the competitors. Neither of us has had the problem with shaking mirrors or vibrating hood. I think the vibrating hood issue was resolved by Mazda. Most of you should be aware of the TSB regarding the hood vibration. It looks like an easy fix that any dealer can handle and you may even be able to fix this yourself if you are handy.

Windshields are an interesting story. I took a rock the second day I got the car. It was low on the windshield and I polished it as best I could. So far no issues with cracking. My son on the other hand took a rock (very common here in AZ) about 2 weeks into owning his, high up near the top of the window. Within days he had a stress crack the width of the windshield. I think it all depends on where the chip starts. There must be more flex near the top of the windshield.

Not trying to discount any production issues, but all manufacturers have design flaws that get fixed in later production. My previous car was a 2002 Trailblazer (purchased in March 2001). If you were to read reviews from car experts you would get the distinct impression that these cars were junk. Yet I owned the car for 13 years and placed more than 175K miles on it with only minor problems, other than your normal wear and tear items (brakes, struts, water pump, etc.). Hardly a junk.

I am looking forward to many years of driving pleasure from my CX-5. If it lasts as long as my TB I will be thrilled.

I had no idea there where "issues" with the CX-5, but these minor things wouldn't have swayed me. I bought mine without considering any other small SUV because our 2005 Mazda 3 has been so rock-solid dependable. I did notice the driver's side mirror has a slight vibration but until now didn't know it was a common thing.

Now into my 3rd week of ownership and just passed the 900 mile mark in my GT AWD w/Tech. I 'moved up' to the CX-5 from my '91 Mazda B-2600i 2x4 SE-5 pickup. Living here in MN - especially after this most recent winter - convinced me I needed to seriously look at AWD.

I chose the CX-5 because I really, really, really wanted the HID/AFS option. Too many CRVs and RAV4s running around and the Mazda was a bit more distictive in appearance. NO mirror vibration or hood shake noted. Very happy with the vehicle.

Only complaints are:
  • No inside release for the rear hatch
  • Bluetooth downloads my contact list EVERY time which delays the connection of my Samsung S4.
  • Window buttons on the doors not illuminated save the driver button.
  • Bose radio not really up to expectations (JBL radio in our Camry Hybrid is excellent).

Big pluses are:
  • Drivability
  • Economy
