I know this thread should be under (all mazda's)but need some answer's, and i thought i could get some help here quicker!!!! i recently just picked up a 93 MX-6 V6 5spd with 148,000miles over this past weekend. It's now at the shop waiting to get a new engine in her, since if i do the rebuild..with new pushrods&lifters it'll be couple hundred dollars less than a new/used Engine. I found a Junkyard here with 5motors to choose from, they all are JDM KL-ZE for about $995-1000...with about 30-40thousand miles!!!! Now what's the difference between the KL-03 and the KL-ZE???? which one has more power...looking to get the motor later on today! if any help, id appreciate it thanks(thumb)

KLZE has more power. It's the Japenese version of the engine. Odd, that 5 of 5 motors in a Canadian junkyard are ZEs...but ok.

Go with the ZE, it has more power.

Do you know how much more power it has, and do you think $995-1000 with 30-40thousand miles is a good price?? thanks...BTW i looked up something and found a 95PGT with a KL-ZE motor with PRM intake and Exhaust. It said it ran a 14.1@99mph!!!! i take it that the Probe GT/MX-6 share the same motor. Thanks

I want to say 10-20 more HP. A simple google search should tell you that though.

But yeah, $1K is a good price cor that motor.

check out probetalk.com, tons of info there. the mx6 and ford probe are essentially the exact same car with different bodies. i believe the kl-ze motor has a different intake manifold, cams and maybe slightly higher compression and is 200hp vs the normal 164hp of the USDM motor. this is just off the top of my head though so that could be a little off.

thanks, i appreciate it! i was going to rebuild the stock motor and get new pushrods&lifters since it's broke. I was overlooking on the internet and found something about the KL-ZE, wasn't 2sure about that motor just wanted some info. I guess ima go ahead and get the KL-ZE motor swap then see how everything goes from there(thumb) thanks again

well your motor has hydraulic lash adjusters, or HLAs, which serve as the go between for the cam and the valve. if he just said rod i'd guess he meant connecting rod, so maybe the rod broke and hit a valve. it's a non-interference motor though, but the piston could go up into the valve i guess

Well is it worth rebuilding the motor with 148,xxxmiles?? or should i get the KL-ZE swap, i mean i barely just picked up this car over the weekend and now it's 2 s***!!

that's up to you. if you rebuild it and everything is done correctly it should be like a new motor. if you buy a klze you're taking a chance on a used motor

Yeah you're right but...the KL-ZE only has about 30-40thousand miles and the Stock motor has over 148,xxxmiles!! plus more power with the JDM swap

well it supposedly only has 30-40k on it, who actually knows. plus it hasn't been in a production car for a while, so it's been sitting around in a junkyard for a few years probably. check out probetalk, def more info there than i know. iirc there are a few parts that aren't the same that you'd have to work out. maybe since i've looked (3 years at least) they have worked themselves out though

if you want more info, PM me... I used to have a PGT and considered a ZE till I totalled it... but, MBX is the way to go... he can answer any questions you may have.. hes done a ton of these installs.. (thumb)

Thanks i'll do that, but as you can see i have to make up my mind this afternoon..and i think ima go ahead and just do the swap!!:)

Will do that, thanks for all your help(thumb) kudows

go with klze, it has 200 hp when combined with a jdm ecu, about 195 hp with your stock ecu. The KLZE has a different IM, cams, heads, and pistons. KLZE has a higher compression ratio than the kl03. It also comes with two different IMs. One is the eunos800 and other is the regural straight neck one. The belief is that the straight neck IM performs better than the curved one (eunos800), so I would suggest buying the engine with the straight IM. If you can only find an engine with the eunos800 IM, buy it, you can always upgrade to the straight neck down the road (btw i have one for sale). Finally, when buying the engine, take off the valve cover and see how clean it is.

Are you referring the IM as the (Intake manifold)?? Yes im getting the KL-ZE swap!!

Jus so everyone knows. The "ZE" in any engine code means DOHC "performance" engine.

Here are other examples of engine code sufixes

-nothing, which indicates its a simple 8v SOHC design
-"ME" to indicate it is a 16v SOHC design
-"DE" to indicate it is a 16v DOHC design
-"ZE" to indicate it is a 16v DOHC performance version
-"DET" to indicate it is a 16v DOHC turbocharged version

Ok so now i'm doing my first Mod to the car (CAI) don't know which one to get!!(uhm)

Hotshot CAI=$225 Hotshot.com
Injen CAI=$224 corksport.com
PRM CAI=$179 corksport.com

Don't know which one would gain&perform better?? I been looking on probetalk.com and mostly everbody's using the Hotshot CAI. This is a tough decision, i kinda like the looks of tha Hotshot
