Killed an eclipse, but ouch!

Trust me, it was 1st. It was'nt a bog of the motor shake, it was the tranny tring to slow the car down shake. Its like an extreme engine brake. The tach did peg out at 7200 rpm from what I could see, but it did hapen pretty fast. I was in 5th tring to goto 3rd. Itys was only in 1st for a second or two, but that was long enough.

It is just a car, and I would agree that a lot of people on this board are over protective of them. I love my car, but I was just really tring to see if there was anything I should look at to make sure nothing was broke. Like tranny mounts and engine mounts. I have heard a lot of the new cars these days have weak mounts to begin with.

Another thing I have noticed is that a lot of people on here are quick to say it is impossible. I've been seeing that a lot. (ex. when Dr. Sound wrecked his MSP everyone was saying his story was impossible). Well, this I can prove. If you don't believe it is possible to shift to first at 60 mph, on your way home today, give it a shot. personally, I would not recommend doing this on purpose, but it is possible, you just have to push it into 1st really damn hard.

ouch!!!!! I know how that feels. I use to work at a chevy dealer, did that in a 1999 Z28, shifted from 4th to 1st while doing 50...almost broke my hand.

Did you do that while racing, after the race?

It was right before the race started. I let her get the jump beacuse she was about 1/2 car length behind me, and about when she got to the fender, I slammed 1st, then the car shook tremedously, then I hit 3rd (the gear I was looking for). The race stopped at about 100 mph (in a 45):D , and I was about a car length ahead.

Nice...but like you said...ouch.

You've got to remember that they are CARS! I take mine to the track and beat the s*** out of it. As long as you give the car propper maintenence it will be fine. (Shooting by the rev limter is never a good idea though) Obviously the harder you beat on your car the more often you have to do the routine stuff. A car is a car is a car! Limited production or not...a scratch here scrape there doesn't make a difference.

I am begining to think the majority of the MSP owners are a little to sensitive about their cars.

The MSP is no different from any other F/I car (maybe just a little slower). A standard 2.0 liter with a t2-small doesn't make it that special. Just enjoy it for what it is....a car.;)

This car is not JUST a car. And it IS different that other F/I cars. A true limited production car AND the first street legal Mazdaspeed car on these shores. When you beat on your car, you cause more problems than just having to do more routine stuff. I am a true Mazda fanatic, you just don't have the appreciation for it that I do.

My brother has a 91 MX-6 with 280,000 miles on it. Not only that, the guy that drove it before him (the original owner does not take car of his cars, oil changes that is) beat the living s*** out of it.

And then my brother, who turned a brand new 99 Saturn into a oil burner, then a piece of scrap metal with 30,000 miles.

That right there is why I bought a Mazda. I only hope I get 280,000 miles out of the MSP.

If you drive like that you ******* won't. You're gonna beat that poor ******* car into the ground and then I'm gonna laugh. Flat Black is right, turbo cars require more maintenance and you're gonna pay for it in the long run when the turbo cracks and your tranni gives out cause you can't drive worth a ****. Keep racing on the track, and driving to the professionals.

But hey, its your car, destroy it anyway you want. You're on the right path.

Sure, guess ill drive it into the ground so you can laugh. Sounds like a good plan to me. (jerkit)

So I guess since this is the first time I raced anyone in this car in 3 months, use Mobile 1 full syth, and change the oil every 3,000 miles, how would I go about giving it better maintenance. Im running stock boost still, with the copper plugs. I think maintenance is ok.

Another fine example of another MSP owner jumping the gun making people who used to enjoy this forum no longer enjoy it. I come in here and ask a simple ******* question, and all I get is s***. So I guess enjoy your little forum while you can, cause if you keep giving people s*** like that whenever the ask a question, you'll be talking to yourself in no time. If you notice, more and more old timers no longer even visit this anymore. Gee, wonder why??

And you talk about maintenance, if all you do is give people s***, and jump down there throats, how are they supposed to know how to take car of there cars. Lucky for me I have been working on them for 7 years.

I think if you dropped it into 1st your face would have been planted to the windsheild. Listen for ticking, you can bend valves easily doing that!

See thats what I was looking for. And yes, I just about went through the front windshield. Just glad nothing shattered as soon as I did it. Ill keep an ear on it, just worried that I could have fried a valve spring as well. Im really just glad the tranny held up, since I heard the kinda weak in these cars.

Anyone know if the MSP is a non-interference engine, or a interference.

Btw, thanks for the respectable post raaz227.

I think you jus hit 5th on accident cause if you put it in 1st gear and let off the clutch the RPM's would raise so fast.....

(scratch) So did you do this during the race or what? Your 1 post says you did it trying to go from 5th to 3rd but your other ones say it was in the middle of a race.....meaning you would have been "racing" in 5th gear at 60MPH???

P.S. This car will NEVER last 280k miles unless you figure out a way to lean out the fuel. At that many miles it'll run like that jalopy that Buck Russell drives in the movie "Uncle Buck." Thanks Mazda.

First off I don't drive an MSP anymore. I'm trying to alienate myself from the punks that drive them like a ******* 2- ton brick against every god damn eclipse they see on the road. Maybe if you were so ******* good about maintaining your vehicle you wouldnt go trying to slap it in first when you KNOW damn well the ******* tranni isnt supposed to do that going over 22 mph. You are a ******* moron that cant drive and you don't deserve to drive any other car than a yugo because you are a sack of s***.

Well, we were both crusin, and i did not know for sure they wanted to race, but I was ready if they did. That is why I was in 5th. But I really should have been in 3rd to begin with.. (tring to save gas).

As for lasting that long. It is only a dream, I know they dont build like they used to/should do, and that is why I sold my 2001 chevy Xtreme and bought a mazda. So I hope I can at least get more iles out of this mazda than I could have with my truck.

what was i thinking. it sure is normal to ride down the road at 60 looking for a race. but good thing you were ready. you prolly won cause they laughed so hard when you dropped it into first.
