Key Issues

Ok, had the 5 not even a week. The Key Fob already died out, won't auto lock/unlock. Is this a common problem? Since it was bought at an auction, it only has one key. Maybe just a battery problem? Thanks.

Oh and I did see a Blue 5 last night while headed to the store. 1st one so far.

My fob has been a little fussy too. Think I'm gonna have to go to a camera store for the battery because I haven't been able to find it anywhere. It's an odd size.

One of mine died too (lucky for me it happened at the dealership) and the dealer had to order a replacement.

After I got it replaced, I thought I saw a TSB about it here on the forum...

My key has worked without complaint since I got it a year and a half ago, and I don’t see too many problems with them here on the board, so I’m guessing (unfortunately) it’s isolated. My guess is it comes down to the batteries.

Not that this will help your situation, but I think you’ll find that a new key is $300 after programming. So if you need a replacement or a spare, well, at least you won’t be shocked or mad at the part’s guy

Yeah already knew about the price of the replacement keys, already looked into it, I'm guessing that you can't just get a valet key made, have to get a switchback key. Might have to call the Dealer and see if the Key TSB is good for hers.

my wife's works just fine. My comes and goes...seems that a knock will make it stop working and another knock will make it start working. So something is loose or something inside.

^^ One day the one for the 06 just stopped working. I opened it, wiggled the battery and worked again, but it happened again a couple of days later.

Thought the was battery was gone or something, but it was not the case. Opened it again and played a little with the battery base (lightly twisted further the metal contacts that connect to the battery poles so there is more contact pressure and the battery stays in place... just be gentle). No problem since...

As others have discussed in similar threads, you can buy a regular key with the chip (no remote or switchblade) that they make for the 3 for about $20 from the dealer. It at least allows you to unlock the door and start the car. I did that for a 3rd key that will be sparsely used, but may come in handy at certain times.

There are tons of Mazda key fobs all over Ebay at really good prices.

took our 5 in today for an oil change and TSB, complained about my FOB having problems, so they replaced the remote part on both under warranty. The new one has more noticeable texture to the plastic and the buttons feel firmer. Could be that the old one was just worn. be nice to have a working FOB again.
