Kenwood removal question?

I was able to use the butter knife removal tool to pull my head unit out of my car. The only problem is that the cords are either too short or caught on something. How did those that removed the unit free it up or disconnect the harness. I tried reaching around through the glove box but my hand is too big.

when they did the radio install they tied the wires up. I could not get them undone so i just unplugged the harness out of the radio.

i think it would be easier (and safer) if you got some kenwood removal keys. i think a cool authorized kenwood dealer would let you use em for free.

I'll try to go from the drivers side since there may be more room. I was able to remove the unit completely from the dash, but could not go far enough to get to the harness on the left side. I was able to plug in my RCA adapter cable on the right side, but that was it. The butter knife method works just like having the keys and doesn't hurt anything :)

what is the butterknife method

You can place a butter knife on each side and then push the unit out from behind. It's easy if you go through the glove box and give a little push.

removing Kenwood radio

The easiset way is to remove the pocket first. Then you can unplug the harness. There are two slits in the pocket, one on each side. Release the spring clips on either side with a flat tool. You can use the Kenwood removal tool or something else small and flat. This will save you time and you won't cut your hands up.
