the best wagon evAr..
I have the Kenwood 919 that i'm gonna put in my 5.. I have the pocket.. will I need a wiring harness? And is it hard to get the factory radio out? Do I need any special tools?

go to an auto parts and get the Ford radio removal tools. It shouldnt cost more than $2.50

If there's a plug attached to the radio, about 2" wide, then you don't need the harness. If there is just a bunch of wires not connected to any plug, then you need a harness.

does anyone have that p/n for the harness from the HU to a stock P5 harness? I'd like to have it before I call the dealership so I can just ask for the p/n versus getting the run around about how I obtained the radio (Sjurgs' wrecked MSP).

Yeah, I ordered my wiring harness online, but you can get it from Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter, etc. Oh, Lisa, you'll also need an install kit, like a pocket, you can get that at the same places. And I've got the removal keys lying around if you want to hit me up for them. Hopefully your stock stereo will come out easier than mine did. :-P

I just ordered the harness and the trim for the front from a very nice guy out in Portland using Craig's (1sty) link to Kenwood Parts Dealers http://www.kenwoodusa.com/support/parts_dealers.jsp the whole thing with Priority shipping was $15.85 :D
Thank you Jersey for the suggestion, I called them and was all ready to get my stuff from them this evening but I figured I'd call the guys on the West Coast (once they got up (poke) (lol2) ) and it was quick and easy, thanks again to everyone. gl Lisa, its a snap to do once you've got all the parts, I pulled (with deckedoutmp5's help) the stocker and installed the bracing and the pocket in about 5 minutes.

I'll be out attempting to get this done tonight.. and i'll post up some pics of the process when i'm done.
thanks to everyone.. I love all you guys for helping me out. (group)

You have to get one form the dealership which is priced rather high, or find someone selling one on here.

Zoom zoom..
mine is in!! And it sounds great.. I got a course on how to use it from a friend this weekend so all is VERY good!!

fyi.. the part number for the metra wiring harness (the Mazda part) is 80-7903.. that is the harness with plugs on BOTH ends so you don't have to do any cutting, crimping, etc. etc.. I had to also get the wire harness to connect with the Kenwood and i'm not sure what that part number is right off hand because I'm at work. Both of my wire harnesses had plugs on all the ends so I just plugged and played.. :)
AND.. Circuit City and Tweeter supposedly are NOT carrying Kenwood anymore (at least in my area).. Myer Emco is picking up Kenwood in like a month.. finding the wire harnesses could get challenging in the future..

Thank you so much for that info Lisa! I'm glad that you finally got everything in working order...hope you're happy with the results!

Lisa, I just bought the same exact car and put a HU,amp and sub in this past weekend on Saturday! The only real nightmare for some reason was getting the stock radio out! Hope eveything went well!
