Going through my build list estimate. The shop I'm getting it done at is a authorized dealer of eagle rods but we're going with k1 rods and wiseco pistons .020 bore. Lost of othe parts going along with the build but hoping for about 350hp with the stock turbo. Anybody have some input on the durability of k1 rods vs other brands?

Wiseco makes great pistons, and k1 rods are great for the price.

That turbo is too small for your power goals.

I made a write up on building this engine. Bunch of info I gathered from research I did before I build my engine and some insight after I did the build too. Link is I'm my signature below

K1 is a good quality brand I would trust them. And I agree with ap123 the T25 will not make 350hp it maxes out around 17-18psi.

I was hitting 20 psi before I blew a rod through the block. I appreciate the advice but I think it can be done with a good tune

20 is much more than the stock block can handle, trust me that turbo runs out of air past 18psi. I will try to find you the compressor map for it, the GT2554r is designed for a 1.8L motor.

a gt2860rs or gt2871rs will get u where u need to be. mayb even a t3/t4 turbo set up should be plenty if youre aiming for those numbers. and 20psi untuned??? lol how many times did it hit that high? must of been fun gooing zoom zoom psssshhhbooom! haha. but for real gt28 or if u want more power gt30 and def something like the ssftc to control timing and fuel or full standalone if youre aiming for high psi/whp

Agree with the others. A friend have a forged MSP with lots of goodies and great tune of a Megasquirt standalone unit but still have stock turbo... He maxes the turbo at about 18-18.5 psi and don't even hold it, boost drops past 4500rpm.... And with all that he pulled about 320hp on the dyno.

K1 rods are good. K1 Technologies is a sub-division of Wiseco... No need to say more. But they are designed for holding up to ~400hp that is way over tranny limit.

k1's im sure can handle way more. than 400whp. but yea like u said , 400whp is way past a stock geared tranny's breaking point.

the gt2554r is way too small. Just look at the map http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbo.../turbogroup/performance_maps/471171-3comp.jpg
By the time you are over a bar of boost you are already getting out of where its efficient and it doesn't flow very much ether. look at the map the efficiency is going starts to drop down to near 60% at around 18 psi and its only moving about a max of 25lb/min of air, all you're getting is hot air! Garrett themselves say its only good for 270hp.
Even a gt2560r struggles to make anything over 300hp.

With a gt2860rs youll be pushing it to its limit, not really ideal but there shouldn't be an issue getting there with the right ems and tune. A gt2871r would be best.

here is the gt2860rs map

and the gt2871r map, notice how flows about 80% more then the stock turbo also even running at 1.5bars (2.5 compression ratio) of boost you'll be between 76-70% efficiency:

My best advise is read the compressor maps, look at what turbos run well and efficient at your power goal and choose one. Not one that you'll have to push it its absolute limit. Obviously what you actually experience in the real world may be different but preparing you build on paper will help you be successful at reaching your goal. Also remember in order to get to your desired whp your going to have to shot for a higher hp at the crank, which is what manufactures work with. rule of thumb you'll be loosing about 15% of the crank hp in the drivetrain (only about 85% reaches the wheels).

Their are a few options. K1 and Molnar Technologies. I recently found out the the owner of Molnar Technologies was the original owner of K1. I guess he sold K1 and worked for the corporation that bought K1 for a few years. I guess he left due to quality issues and corporate BS. I have no experience with either rod. I have Oliver Billet rods and really like the quality of them. I don't think Oliver makes the FS-DE rod anymore, otherwise I would highly recommend those. I ran the GT2871R for the last 8 years with good results. Made 350whp on 17-18psi. If you plan to stay with the T25 frame turbo, I would recommend the new GTX2867.
