K&N Typhoon Intake Syste (CAI too)

i looked for the typhoon on the kn site but they did not list a kit for our car. but yet the have instructions for our car with photos of them putting it on a mp3. wtf

I've seen a few for the other cars ranging around 100 to 150 US...cheaper than the injen. I would rather go w/ one of these for that price, also since you can make it a short ram if you like.... you can do that to the injen, but if im not mistaken you would have to cut the injen... also it come with a MUCH better filter.... all of the other ones (and the one i have too) are just red dyed paper filters. they are not the same polymaterial like the KN.

I had finally decided that Injen was the best CAI to go with and now this comes along. Does anyone have this? Also I know K&N makes great filters, if this is the only advantage to this couldn't you put the Injen CAI on and use a K&N filter?

can the Injen be used as a short ram too like the K&N? I agree with Zio I would go with K&N rather than Injen since they're really known for making good filters (unless injen uses K&N also hehe) but I like the idea that you can make it a short ram if the weather is bad

I'm going to the K&N route because of its known high quality products but now who needs an AEM short ram if I can do this with my golf's K&N filter hehehe

I dont see why you cant put the K&N filter on your injen... if it fits go ahead. I never realized that it would be 400 bucks... that a little rediculous in my opinion... you can get your own bent aluminum pipe and straps for under 50 bucks, thena filter for around 50 bucks (i am assuming that would be about the price for a K&N cone), then you have the same procudt for a 1/4 of the price.

By the way, i hope some people here dont get fooled by the material for the pipe... they are ALL aluminum..... no company has better material than the other to significanrtly increase horsepower or throttle response.... it basically comes down to the filter... and i guess the pipe size being either 2.5inch or 3 inch might make a differnce.... i have a 3 inch right now, but i am going to make my own with 2.5inch pipe so it fits nicer and there will be no way for it to hit my master cylinder.

I have a setup similar to dichee's. I went to Autozone, baught a $20 APC cone filter and found a little "L" bracket. I took off ALL the stock intake stuff pre-MAF (the whole box and all the silencer stuff.) Slipped the cone filter on, then used of the bolts that holds the MAF on the airbox and the closest airbox mounting bolt and put and "L" bracket there for support. Looks good, sounds good, and most likely works as good as any other CAI out there. All for $20. I will post pics soon.

Got off the phone with K&N

I was talking to their CS person nice guy.
Their intakes are double powder coated and aircraft pipe, gaskets so on so forth.
But 400 bucks.:bs: (no)
That is to steep, I told him I explained that Injen was about 230.00 shipped.

They really need to rethink the pricing because it will not sell.
400 Bucks, For an intake NOT.
I love K&N filters.
So I can, always buy the injen and a typhoon filter...LOL
And I will still be way under 400 bucks
(omg)

OK

Well reading a little more on this, The K&N kit comes with a lot to it, brackets adapters , and have the chance to change to a short ram is nice.
But still have a hard time with the price. Yes it is a well built, thought threw system.
Will it give anymore air flow to a Injen It does not look this way........

Don't even TRY to convince yourself to buy this. Go pay $75 and get an Ractive intake. Best intake for the $. either that, or go with a big ben CAI.

Holy !#@#$

Manufacturer: KN Filters
Part Number: KNN 69-6020TP
Description: TYPHOON, 2002 PROTEGE 5 / MP3, POLISHED

You Pay: $ 399.00

like i said.... i am just going to make my own... i bet you can do all of that for under 80 bucks or so (canadian)... you can buy the aluminum they use (T6XXX) its the same all of the other manufacturers use... then you can just buy sleeves and strapos... all the major money will just be towards what kind of filter you use..

400 bucks?.. i dont freaggin think so.

i see no point in the overengineering of this thing. The only thing I see it can do better at then an AEM CAI is that you can switch from CAI to short ram. How difficult could it be to cut your AEM where the K&N is cut and but a piece of silicon and 2 clamps? doesn't seem worth the $180 difference at all. Besides, the AEM filter element is just as good if not better than the K&N.
