2000 Audi S4
Hey all, I've been lurking for a bit while trying to sell my car. I was forced to sell my 2000 Audi S4 because it was getting vandalized and was a pain to own in Boston. So, I flew down to Baltimore last weekend for this:

2002 Mazda Protege5
24,000 miles (not a typo)
Auto (worst part but I'll get past it easily living in Boston)
Blue
$8,288

I purchased it from a Hyundai Dealer they got it from an old couple trading in for a new car. It has every service record from 2003. I made them replace the calipers and pads after I drove it because I felt a noticeable amount of brake pulsation (pissed me off at first but they took care of it). I traveled south as far as I wanted to go to get a car with less rust.

My first few tanks I got 23 mpg highway which I couldn't believe. I finally got time this weekend and did spark plugs, and air filter (they didn't have K&N) to hopefully help it a bit and also got a new battery and terminals. I got 25 mpg on the trip from VT to Boston just now so it may have helped a little, but i want 30!

I am still trying to decide if I feel a vibration at high speeds or if I am just used to a smoother ride in my old car but I am going to get the alignment checked this week. They put all new summer tires on as well so I am thinking it's not a balancing issue.

Oh, and I also got rid of the stock stereo and speakers with a nice Kenwood Excelon KDC-X995 unit and some Kenwood Excelon speakers. The stereo and speakers installation was a fun Saturday project which took twice as long as expected. I'm enjoying the car so far, anything else you guys can think of for the gas mileage and highway vibration issues? They did new motor oil last weekend also, I am going to do tranny fluid, some seafoam, and injector cleaning within the next month to see how that helps.

I took a ton of pictures this weekend while I was at my rents in VT, so enjoy...

Old vs New...

Had to throw this in...

Nice find! I really like the headunit you chose. It is a same you had to let an S4 go though :(

Car looks great!! I too had to travel south (car was in Nashville) for a rust free p5. There was nothing but crap around here!

As far as the MPG goes, that thing isn't even broken in yet!! I'd be willing to bet you'll see gains simply as time goes on. I bought my previous vehicle brand new, and put 124K on it before trading it in, and I definitely got better MPG the higher up the odometer got...

Thanks guys, enjoying it so far. I am taking it in tomorrow for the day to get the alignment checked and have them look at the slight vibration. I really want some new tires but can't decide if it's worth it. They just put new Federal Super Steel S35 tires on but I think they are the cheapest you can get and are not helping the situation. Any tire recommendations?

Well are you wanting tires just for non-winter use? I'm running Falken 912s down in FL. It's been great in the dry and wet. Also, think about going up in size as the availability of the stock tire size causes the price to be higher. Try 205/50/16 - more to choose from and prices are better.

Nice find....Check out the NEPOC section of the forums for local mazda meets and what not....If you like Shenanigans...We haz dem!
