Just got OEM mudguards and have a few questions

Hi all!

I just bought OEM mudguards off eBay. Some questions:

1.) Can I install these myself without a jack?

2.) Do I really need a torque wrench to do this?

3.) Has anyone else installed these yourself? How long did it take?

4.) Any additional tips?

I installed a set of OEM Mazda ones on my cx9, and didnt jack up the car, or use a torque wrench for anything. All it took was a stubby Phillips head screw driver. Total install time was probably about 20 minutes. And i wasnt rushing myself. Its a very easy install.

Thanks - that is helpful. Once the weather breaks and I can clean up the area, I'll put in on myself. Did you have to turn the front wheels to get a better install angle?

If i used a longer screw driver, i probably would have. But i used a stubby screw driver for exactly that reason. My car was already in the garage, and i didnt want to have to open the garage and let out the little bit of heat i had.

For the front wheels, you might want to turn the wheels to make it easier to install.

I think the last time Mazda messed with anything 4 wheel steer was back in the late 80's with the old MX6 and 626 turbo's. haha

It was a big trend back then with honda doing it as well with the prelude, until they realized it really didn't do anything lol and was just another thing to go wrong and break. Although Honda is trying to revive it with the new TLX. They probably added it to make the car less boring than it already is.

Mazda's system at least worked much better then the very failure prone system Honda used on the Preludes. And Honda only beat Mazda to the market with the 4WS system by less then a year. I owned a 88 626GT Turbo years ago with the system, and it was pretty sweet. It would turn in the same direction as the front wheels were being turned at higher speeds, and turn the opposite way in lower speed turns to give it a much tighter turning radius.

Yeah...I remember those... '88 626 sedan...turbo I believe too. Mazda's had electronics involved and Prelude was all mechanical IIRC.

Mine wasnt the common sedan. I actually had the much more rare Touring model. It was originally a Turbo GT though. One of less then 1300 ever imported into the states. I flew to NY to locate the car as there just that rare to find. I spent more looking at the car, and the transport to get it back to IL then i spent on the car itself. Then i yanked the factory SOHC motor out for a JDM DOHC FE3 i fully built. This was the very 1st 626 in this country with the swap even.

Nice... I forgot about the touring models
