Just Got an MP3 and don't know what to do

Automatics have to get a transmission cooler, all turbo vehicles should have an engine oil cooler though. You can get by without it, but you're pushing your luck with these engines. They burn oil even stock, so if you slap on a turbo it's gonna burn even more cuz it gets so damn hot!!

The SS AFC doesn't allow for timing control (the SS FTC does), and even if it did.. why would he need to? And it's just as easy to load a NA map to the AFC as it is to load the supermap to the MSP ECU.. except it's about $200 cheaper going the NA ECU route.

If you're using the AFC, there's no advantage to the MSP ECU. There's a significant number of P5 turbo guys using the NA ECU with the SS AFC and the maps are out there and just as stable as the MSP ones.

So if I just got the mps ecu I wouldn't have to do a piggy back ecu or do get the protege 5 speed ecu and piggy back it with the mps ecu?...Why can't I keep my MP3 ecu I already have on the car?

Gauge wise, dose it matter what brand of Gauge I get and the way it will operate?

You absolutely CAN NOT keep the MP3 ECU as it has advanced timing to gain you as much NA power. You want to retard the timing for turbo applications.

If you use the MSP ECU, you certainly do not need a piggy back of any sort. However, the MSP ECU is programmed to be super rich.. which is safe, but you lose a of power. That's where the SS AFC comes in as one of the best piggy backs to use as it is most user friendly and works very well with the Protege ECUs, and allows you to offset the super rich factory tune.

As far as gauges go I would recommend a quality brand such as AutoMeter, DEFi, or AEM. Prosports are very common in the Protege community because they match the interior lights very well, but their quality is garbage. I have them, and they suck.. the senders break all the time, and the readings are not very accurate.

The ssafc is a miracle worker...thats all i can say...hell when i first put in my turbo with the msp ecu my car was actually slower than it was before...it was literally running that rich...no exaggeration. but once i wired up the ssafc with just the supermap, no custom tuning it now hauls ass...i still expect to pick up a good 30+ hp when i get it tuned because its still running rich

How much is it for the ss afc and msp ecu? I don't know if I could pass my car with a piggy back but I wouldn't want to lose power.

would I have to buy any internals for the engine for it to run strong with the turbo?

SS AFC v2 is $400 new (I paid $250 used) and v1 models that don't have the data logging capability sell for about $180 used.

MSP ECU's are around $250 new. I thought I remembered ProtegeGarage selling them new for around $300 or so but I can't find them anymore.. so you'll have to look for used.

Forged internals would definitely put you on the safe side while boosting, but the general rule of thumb in the community is that you don't need them if you don't plan on boosting over 10 psi. However, if you can afford to buy them.. I would highly recommend it because then you wouldn't have much to worry about. And if you really do pull the trigger on forged internals, save for a bigger turbo such as the GT28RS instead of the stock MSP GT25R.

Don't get me wrong, the stock MSP turbo is more than capable of blowing up an unbuilt engine, but if you do build it with forged internals, then might as well upgrade the turbo as well so you can make full use of it.

I dont think I have that much money laying around for the forged internals so I would probably just stick with the GT25R.

Kind if subject of what I'm talking about...but my radio in my MP3 cranks up randomly really LOUD on its own for some odd reason. it does it a ton when I listening to the radio and very rarely to almost never when I'm playing a CD...any idea why this is happening?
