Just cleaned my engine

i could never get my engine that clean with all the snow and salt and rust treatments going on with the winters in montreal. no point in even trying to clean it...

**** that, I've detailed cars for 5 years, and I pressure wash my own engine everytime I wash the car, no ill effects whatsoever... Do it while the engine is warm, not hot and the water will evaporate real fast...

Do you do it at a car wash? I'm just trying to figure out how I would do it. By the time I get to the car wash the engine will be super hot, and it would probably take a long while for it to cool.

Well it's easy to keep a car clean in no salt regions. (hehe) But then again, my baby stays in the garage most of the time and gets tend to quite often.

yeah it's tough with all the salt. in Rochester they go hardcore with the salt too, luckily it only snowed an inch or two so far this winter

Well, I used to detail at the dealership I work at, so I would jsut whip the car in after work... But now I just do it at home in the driveway. Pressure washers can be had for about $200 CAD, so they're a worthwhile investment.

i have a pressure washer at my house, but isnt that too powerful? even a regular hose i dont feel confortable with. is it just me, or does all this sound crazy, taking a hose and dumping all this water everywhere. i have heard of steam washing engines, but those were for engines that didnt even have electronics. i really dont get this hole idea..... i really wanna clean my engine too, lol.

Ok man, regardless of what u've heard about covering the alternator, etc. **** it. Engines are weatherproof but not waterproof. Meaning, you can get it wet, but you can't submerge it. On a cold engine, spray it librally with the engine shampoo fo your cooice, and hit it with the pressure washer. Liek I said, I washed mine over 200 times by now, and NEVER have I had a problem. And I use a 2300psi pressure washer!

But, soft water in Calgary..you have to be kidding. I have waterspots if I wash it at home withing 5 minutes. This is the worst place for hard water....

Basically, once you have it clean all you need to do is wipe it down a little now and then. Not to tough really. Also helps if you polish things up and paint. Man I've spent days in my engine bay just cleaning.
