dude i really like that... only thing i'd suggest is grabbin an MSP DIN pocket from somewhere, it'll look better with that FINE AWESOME UNIT than that metra/scosche kit.

i really like how that looks, i'm contemplating putting one in the car i'm building... keep us updated on how it works out for you!

How much is the DIN pocket from mazda? or does anyone have any laying around?

Well you could always put it in the bottom din, but i actually think you can see it better when its that high. Besides, you can keep it closed when listening to music so you get some extra air on those really hot days.

Thug541,
Did you install it yourself??
Any fitting issues??
Crutchfield says that it does not fit the protege but obviously it does by your pictures. It said something about it being too deep.
If you had a shop install it, how much was it?? just curious.

Looks good, I can't wait for mine!

Nah, i def. didn't have the time or patience too. I've installed my fair share of car radios and this one required too much of my time right now. I had it done at my local shop (ranked top 100 installers in the country so i trust them). Its expensive to install tho, a lil over $200. As far as I know, there was no fitment issues. Honestly, with something like this, I think its best to get it professional installed....preferably by a store that sells these, because you avoid having to trouble shoot yourself with the large amount of thigns that could go wrong.

Good Buy......but the problem with buying off EBAY- NO WARRANTY! The longest warranty I've seen for electrionics is 90days!
I helped the guy install it at the dealer and I couldn't believe how easy the install was on my car- Took a little over 1hr

Way old bump to update you guys a lil bit about the unit and how its treated me through out the years. It still is going strong, except one of my LED's went out on the EQ button. Not a big deal. Navi is still amazing, althought with the new versions of the unit they have new navi discs so i have to pay for those updated versions....which i guess i will eventually, but $250 is pricy. I've been thinking of updating my screen tho to a Alpine and get an alpine navigation unit as well simply because the ipod functionality of the newer units simply s*** on the one I have right now. Also, the new AVIC's have their whole lockout attached to the speedometer where if you are over 10mph you can't enter navi information, watch a dvd etc. Now, its not like I do this while driving often....but I do when I have a friend in the car who wants to watch a movie or enter the navi input himself. The current Alpine's still use their brake, hand brake, brake routine which has a bypass box u can buy on ebay....so i'm debating this move. Does anyone have any reviews of the newer alpine headunits/navigation? Or does anyone have any good news on the new AVIC's?
