Just purchased my Mazda 5 GT in platinum silver metallic. I traded in my 1998 Dodge Caravan so now I feel like I'm driving in complete luxury.

I noticed there are a couple of Calgarians who are regular posters. Thanks for all the great information on the forums.

Yeah....we're about 3-4 members strong here in Calgary....Congrats, I'm sure it's a whole different driving experience coming from a 98 Caravan.
What do you think about the decrease in space?

We are a family of 3 so I don't think the space is going to be a big issue. I'll let you know after this weekend. We are packing up and heading for Lethbridge.

Congrats on the purchase. Almost the same deal as us. We traded in our 97 caravan for our 5 last summer.

We have very much noticed the lack of space compared to the caravan, especially with a dog. But the driving experience far outweighs the loss of space, especially with the 5 speed.

What dealer did you buy it at?

We bought it at Sunridge Mazda. A friend of ours knows the owner so we got the friends and family deal.

My 9 year old son has already made comments about the extra leg room in he second row compared to the Caravan. On our trip down south this weekend he is planning on sitting in the third row, putting his feet up on the folded down second row seat in front of him, plugging in the laptop and chilling out. LOL!

I'm just mad that the weather has been so lousy this week. My new car is dirty already.

Get used to it....This is one vehicle that tends to get dirty really quickly...Have a safe trip and make sure to monitor your fuel consumption so that you can report back to the forum.....Fuel consumption readings really vary....It seems that some of the members in the US get better mileage...The best I could get on the hwy was 27mpg and around 24mpg in the city.

Since 30% of fuel consumption is based on how one accelerates, could mileage will vary from driver to driver on the exact vehicle?

For example, on my 99 Maxima (5-speed MT), I get around 11L/100km city driving occasionally like I'm 18. When I babied the acceleration, I get around 8, especially if I turn off power accessories (climate control to manual, turn off heated seats, and don't use rear-defrost). On the highway, again, how fast I go and how hard I accelerate to pass, I could squeak 6-7L out of her. I know guys on the forum who get 15L/100km. They drive the snot out of their Maxima's.
(drive2)

But there is good reason for monitoring your fuel consumption - 99.9% of the time if it goes up for a strange reason, there's something wrong.

Wow, I think there are four of us now. Maybe we need our own Canuck/Calgarian sub-forum? (canada)

So what kind of mileage are you getting from your Mazda5.
My last hignway test was performed last week; I made 2 trips to Kananaskis back to back.....Accounted for about 494km on the one tank of gas. I drove at 110-120km/hr and did not drive agressively....And yet all I could manage was 27mpg. I think my consumption has degraded since I installed the Fujita CAI....or maybe it's just my imagination.
Anyway, lemme know what you get out of your '5'.

I just bought mine in mid-February. I ditched a 2000 Saab 9-5 Wagon and 1998 Ford Explorer. We have a 2006 Chrysler T&C and our Mazda5 "SuperMini". With 3 kids, it makes life easy!

Welcome and congrats on your purchase BeeGirl. You'll find many good fellows and great advice. Most of the people around here really know their stuff (2thumbs) (not like me, clueless blogger :D)
