ok so i walked by the sony store today on my break, and i saw a deal where they were selling 4 subs for 130. This is all well and good but in doing so i would need to buy an amp and such. I know little about car audio, so i told the guy there that i just wanted a better sound system overall, he suggested an amp, and maybe new speakers depending on the quality of the ones that are stock. I was wondering how many watts the stock speakers are and what would be my best bet to improve my system. I really dont want a sub just yet because i dont want to take up space in my hatch. I have an '07 hatch btw. Would it be best to just start out with an amp and put it under the seat or what? any help would be great.

I would go to a car audio dealer, not the Sony store(overpriced) and listen to the setups they have on their walls. Pick out what you like together and check the price; if its too much, go for the next best and so on until you're satisfied.

im a noob with this stuff, so where would an example of a car audio dealer be and i dont think sony was overpriced cause it was an outlet store and some stuff is refurbished but w/e

i mean i think u can agree the sound system is great stock but i want much better

If you're that new to the whole audio scene then go to Best Buy or FutureShop and don't let them talk you out of lots of money, they want to just make money, but there is some stuff there thats cheap and totally acceptable. Other than that, look a dealer up in the yellow pages, not hard to find and I have no idea what country, state, province you live in; good luck :)

What is it about the system that you want improved?
More bass?
More detail?
More overall volume?

What have you heard that you liked for setups?

What did you hear that you did not like?

What is your budget for this?

Who is doing the installtion?

My experience has lead me to the conclusion that you will want to have at least $500 (your installing), or $750 (delear is installing) to upgrade a system before doing anything otherwise by the time you are done repeatively tearing up the car you have a tone of little scratches and vibrating panels from loose clips.
