JSpeed short shift plate...

i appreciate the report, this helps the rest of us alot when folks like you can give us some real details on your experience with a product or vendor. How is the the 2-3 shift? I never liked the stock unit for this particular shift. I hope you continue to be pleased and will give us a long term update after some good workouts. Thanks

Personally I never had an issue going into 3rd. So for me it's about the same just a shorter throw to get there.

For anyone watching this thread, I replaced my stock shift weight for a lighter version. I drove with the stock weight for about 4 days. The new weight is 10.56 oz.(0.66 lbs) compared to the stock which is I think 19.6 oz.(1lb & 3.60 oz.) I liked the feel with the stock weight in place. Shifts were solid, a bit heavier than stock but not too bad at all. Now with the new lighter weight in place it feels even better (at least IMO), nice light shifts and no problems getting into all gears easily. So, as far as the performance of this SSP, it does what it was advertised to do. Love the shorter throws, solid feel, and ease of installation. Time will tell if the argument/discussion over the strength/integrity of this part holds up. For the price and what it does I'll give a thumbs up to JSpeed. (thumb) I check in regularly with all my parts that are on my car, so I will be watching this SSP to see how it holds up for the long run...

Where did you get the weight from and what did you pay?

Thanks,
Jamie

Thanks Funk.

I'd like to make a point here.

Funksliver07 paid $55.00 for a JSPEED STSP that's construction and integrity is sketchy at best and another $30 for a weight to get the “Right” feel. He could have purchased a complete kit from me that includes the plate, the weight, and all the proper mounting hardware for $80. A kit that actually does what it’s advertised to do, reduce the throw by 40%, that’s made of steel and powder coated in 6 colors. And if he chose to, he could have added my solid shifter bushings for a total of $95 and had the most complete package anywhere around. Real value for his money.

This is getting a bit old, I still might buy your part just for comparison sake. Personally the money wasn't an issue for me. I think you're bashing a part even though you aren't sure if it will last the test of time. I already have the solid shifter bushings and an aftermarket rear MM as well, so didn't need to add the bushings. Just to clarify, I didn't add the weight because I was dissatisfied with the feel I just wanted to see the difference between the two. Again this is a test for me to see if I will stay with the shift plate set up or eventually go with a STS. In any case both parts (JBarone & JSpeed) are not to pricey so no big deal for me to do a bit of my own testing on these parts...Not sure if you're just upset about the competition or if you have any real solid information on the integrity/strength of the JSpeed unit. If you do have some real world testing/research please let us all in on it so we can all see the data on how the strength of these 2 parts compare. Not trying to stir anything up here just trying to get some real info out there to the community. I agree with all you're saying and yes the strength, research & development and longevity of aftermarket parts is important, to all of us using them. Let's see if someone using the JSpeed part actually has any real issues or a failure of the construction of the part before we start calling it "sketchy" at best. I have the same concerns as you do but I am willing to give this part a chance to see if it holds up to some real driving and time. I look forward to any and all discussion on this subject...

Funk,
This was by no means a personal attack on you or the purchase you made, it was just a comparison/observation I thought needed to be pointed out. For most, money is an issue and buying 2-3 products just to decide which is right for them is beyond the means of many.

I'm not upset with the competition at all, I've already stated what bothers me about this guy. As for real solid information on the integrity/strength of his plate, Speedheeb sent me his and I sent him mine, we traded. I will have some data very soon on the JSPEED. I don't know what he plans to do.

Thanks,
Jamie

No worries, I did not feel it was an attack directed toward me at all. I too am watching all this very closely so that I can safely run an aftermarket part like this with piece of mind. I know you've had some background with this particular part so I welcome your knowledge on the subject.

UPDATE: For anyone watching this, coming up on 3k miles with the J-speed SSP installed. Shifting is still solid and zero issues to date.

Updates are being made to the design and machining method. Stay tuned for updated pictures and description.
