JosueP5's '03 Protege5 Build Thread.

I'm not 100% on the rim brand. The guy never told me much about the mods. There are some markings on them that say "A-Tech MONOBLOCK" and a bunch of numbers that are probably the bolt patterns the rims fit, as well as "16x7". After a quick google search, A-Tech MONOBLOCK seems to be the brand/model, but I don't think they're available anymore.

Thanks, that's what I figured. (hi)

I'm going to get them blasted so I can repaint them. The finish isn't too nice anymore. I was thinking about black with a red lip and red lugs, but my WIFE of all people was giving me s*** about black, so I may find some cool off the wall silverish color.

I guess they are a replica of the Gram Light 57Pro wheel, which retails for about $400 a piece. Think I'll look for something else...

Well not the best day Josh's P5. However, he did get the cruise control cable he was after...

What a day....lol

Went junkyarding with Evan, and like he said, got the cruise cable I was after...but that was about the extent of my good luck. Started POURING on us as we were finishing up at the yard. Then on the way home, the car went ape s***. :(

We just made a turn from one highway to another, in 5th gear, and the car started spitting, sputtering, and falling on it's face. We DID hit a big ass hole in the road, but the problems didn't start immediately after the hole for us to say "Yup, that's what cause it". It was a little ways after it. Tried to downshift, but I could not give the car any gas without it acting this way.

s*** got wierd after that. Coasted to the side of the highway, and came to a stop. The car idled FINE...at first. Then it'd spit, sputter, and stall once you tried to give it gas. After a short period of time, it wouldn't idle at all. It starts fine, just falls on it's face and stalls soon after. Once while we were waiting for the tow, it idled fine again, but now it doesn't even stay running.

CEL came on once, and luckily I had the scanner in the car. Said P0340 (i think), camshaft position sensor blah blah blah. So we're like..."Alright, cool. I have the spare one at home. We'll switch it out and be back on the road" Of course it couldn't be that easy...so we're baffled at what it could be. My neighbor suggested pulling the fuel pump out and checking the screen/filter thing-a-magig, so I'm going to get that done asap. Other than that, who knows. At least I have a car to drive still...

Pic...:(

That is bad pic! Hope you get her sorted out man.
ALERT, THREAD JACK IN PROGRESS!
We need to get together and talk about a paint job on my 3. Jenny seems to think we need to have a "different color".
Sorry continue thread. lol

Eh... every car gets towed eventually. My Miata has been on a flatbed twice now. My Civic... twice I think. The Protege, only once if I remember correctly. Good luck man. I'll try to rack my brain for more potential solutions.

Thanks mang.

Some have suggested the timing may have jumped, but I'm not sure if that's it. The car idled fine after it happened, and once after that. If it was the timing, I don't think that would've happened.

Well, time to go back to basics. Time to make sure all of the necessary components are there. Fuel, Air, Spark. Then go from there. I should have some free time this week to help take a look.

Evan's coming over this week sometime so I can play with his bung-hole (weld the bungs in his headers...hehehe), maybe you could shoot over with him.

remember when we were trying to start it in the garage and it smelled of fuel? So perhaps it's not the fuel delivery but maybe it's not getting spark. We can check the spark plugs on the valve cover to see if they are firing.

Would it even fire up at all if it wasn't getting spark though? Wouldn't it just crank and crank and crank?

If a coil is bad and firing intermittently, you'd get a stumbling while idling and maybe not worth a crap. If it's completely out of time, then there's a chance you'd get a lot of backfiring when you try to start it, or a really really rough idle.

I remember when I unplugged my MAF while my car was running back in the day to see what it did, it had a really hard time idling and would die if I wasn't on the gas. I wonder if the big hole in the road knocked the connector lose?

If I remember correctly, it did backfire a time or 2 during startup, but I wouldn't say it was "alot".

Is the fact that the car immedietly dies once you touch the gas an indication of anything specific?
