Hello everyone! Long time Mazda owners but this is our fist CX-30 and we downsized from a CX-50. It's only been a few days so we'll see how this works out.
The lease on our 2023 CX-50 PFP was up in November and we have been discussing turning it back in for something else or buying it outright since February. It is my wife's primary DD so she wanted to wait until late March to see the cypress green in color. She liked it but it wasn't an 'oooo, I gotta have it' moment so we continued to discuss. So she was leaning towards getting another CX-50, I was doing my best sell for a Hybrid, as her commute is 10 minutes in town, but she wasn't biting.
Then a couple of weeks ago, we took a walk around the lot on a Sunday and she noticed the aero grey CX-30 and really liked it. So now that entered our discussion. Rear seat room isn't a major concern as the kids are grown and the only time we have people back there are when we take her parents out to dinner. Biggest concern for us was the loss of rear cargo space. The discussion continued.
Last Friday night our son asked if we'd go with him to the dealer as he was ready to make a change. So Saturday morning we went with him and while I drove with him on a test drive of a 3 S hatch, my wife went with the salesman in the CX-30. Upon meeting back in the parking lot she said it drove very similar to the CX-50 but she didn't sit as high and she thought the rear cargo area would be just fine for our needs. So we went inside and started the process of getting two new vehicles. I pitched a BOGO but when that was declined, I tried for a buy one get one half off. Yeah, that didn't work either. However they did work with us and gave us deals that we were happy with. So my wife drove home with her new CX-30 that same day.
She got a Turbo Premium in aero grey as her must haves were heated seats, power rear liftgate, moonroof, power driver's seat and black wheels and grille trim. The TP offered all of that plus more. When I got home Tuesday night, she said to me that she really likes the turbo. Said she could feel the difference when driving up a big hill that she takes everyday to/from work.
On my to-do list are some minor things - tint the front emblem, cover the chrome window trim with gloss black vinyl, Hyperdip the rear emblems and wheel centercaps, replace the Skyactiv emblem with her custom dolphin emblem from the CX-50, all-weather mats and possibly window visors. Black lug nuts and locks were included so all I need is a set of four black lugs to replace the locks. Verdict is still out on the rear cargo space but we leased it so I told her she can always move back up into a CX-50 at lease end.
