Joey Spaghetti-head's MBC installed.

MSP, The BLACKNESS!
I finally got my Joe's X=something or other-MBC installed.
I had to cut the stock wastegate hose because that piece-o-s*** stock line was so dry, brittle, and CRACKED it would not fit around the 3/16 MBC connector. Every attempt to push the line down onto the 3/16 fitting of the MBC result in more of the line cracking apart.
I ended up having to buy a 1/8 to 3/16 fitting for 1.69$ at Orileys. I had to then take the 1/8 side stick it into the stock wastegate hose and then cut a short length of 3/16 hose to run from the 3/16 end of the fitting to the wastegate side of the MBC.
Anyway it was a pain in the ass to get done.
But now I am running 9.9 to 10 lbs of boost according to my AUTOMETER 2310 boost gauge. It only holds that pressure for a couple of seconds though usually it just hovers around 5-8lbs. Joe is right stock it was topping out at 5lbs! What a crock of s*** Where was my 6.9lbs of boost? Not there that's where A.W.-*******-O.L.

BTW Joe's turn it down until you can barely blow through it method of initial adjustment worked for me. It was almost 10lbs on the nose.

Pics to follow...

Props to Albert for making a .doc of the other guy's (who gets props to) superb MBC install writeup.

Well

At first it felt great but then it was not holding the boost.
Hmm I get out check the MBC and I see that I didnt tighten the lock nut all the way down. DOH!
So I screwed the shaft back down and locked the nut finger tight.
WOW! Now I see why AGR has such a hard-on for his car.
It pulls way harder from 1st-2cnd in fact if you lift throttle abruptly while going from 1st to 2cnd it feels like the front end has just been dropped from 5ft. big difference in pull for me.
I haven't been on the highway yet but 3rd gear is as far
(Not the top of 3rd just a bit into it) as I can go round here on these back roads at least while WOT-ing the car.
I also realize why I can get 36 MPG when I 1st, 3rd, 5th shift it and keep the revs under 3k when I do shift. I am hardly ever in the boost when I daily drive it pulls like 18-22lbs of vacuum.
I cant wait to get an open element cone K&N. I think on the higher boost cars it could help. If not more power at least it will sound better with the new filter.

Cool, can't wait to get it.

By the way, how long did it take to get your MBC from Joe? I ordered his FPR kit on Monday.

Yes I have a boost gauge now you turd muncher!
I bought an Autometer 2310 boost gauge / a-pillar pod for a 03 Protg for 59.00 delivered.
I know the 2310 is 2 5/8 inch gauge and the pod is for 2 1/16 inch or some such size but I made it fit and I mounted the pod to the pillar with some adhesive strips that are capable of holding 140psi of force there are about 4 square inches of the stuff stuck between the pod and the A-pillar.
That big ol gauge looks damn good up there and it is in a perfect spot to reference your PSI/Vacuum. I can see it in my peripheral vision fairly well and with the full sweep needle I can tell where my boost is without directly looking at it.
Unlike that little girly HectoKillaCastle s*** Rectangle pussy-meter of your-in. :p

(2thumbs)

OOO Else don't feel like marchin up and down da SQUARE!
All right off ya go then!

Lister, Rimmer, The cat? Hmmm me buck-o.
Is it a shruberry? NIY!

You ever hit your boost cut yet? That's all I'm doing on mine. I ran a turbo-miata tonight and kept hitting the boost-wall. I still pulled past him for a 9.7s. I'm not using a boost gauge so I'm not sure how much I'm running, but my guess is more than 10psi since it keeps shutting down on me! Just curious to see if anyone else has this problem.

Running higher boost without a boost gauge = really bad idea! (no)

You are probably over 11psi+

Yes some of the owners here do seem to have the full factory boost level of 6.9 psi. Others however, myself included were only getting 5 PSI. The build of the cars seems to be some what inconsistent.

Here is nother MSPer whose boost was only getting 5PSI.

This pic is not my gauge it is xsivspd's gauge.

sounds like you've got a wastegate that needs adjusting, i cant remember who posted it but run a search and you can actually adjust the w/g because some of the dealers didnt set them right or something... good job on the install though! I bumped my boost up to 11psi and I cant keep the damn tires from spinning! We've got an epidemic on our hands, the boost bug is biting people left and right (lol)

Ummmm, from where? That would be the ideal placement spot, but I thought I read something about a price of 250.00 or so.

Man I got the gauge and the A-pillar pod BOTH for 59.00$ delivered. I bought them at Jegs on one order. The gauge was 28.00 and the pillar was 19.99. Here is a link right to the pod you will have to paint it if the stock black color isnt to your liking.
I dont care because it matches the dark part of the dash fairly well. Go towards the bottom of the list and you will see the single pod for a Protege. You can get a 2 or 3 pod mount as well.

No offense, but this is one of the dumbest things I've read.. You increased the boost without a gauge?? Asking for problems :).. You are lucky you are hitting fuel cut, otherwise you'd probably melt something :)... As for the PSI they cut at- since it is airflow/load based, it will vary with load and temp. On a cold day, I can only get about 9psi and on a hot day, about 11 without the MAF enhancer plugged in. With it, I have boosted as high as 14 on a warm day, but cannot really test it up there due to not wanting to blow my car up :).
