JL or Alpine Upgrade

OK, so i'm upgrading my front speakers first, and in a couple months adding a 4 channel amp and sub to my 2003 Protege5. I'm ignoring the rear speakers all together, and leaving the P5 stock h.u. alone until later also. I can't decide between using JL Audio or Alpine speakers. How do they compare to each other as far as quality goes? These are the JLs i am considering:
VR525-CSi http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_components.php?comp_id=61
or
XR525-CSi http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_components.php?comp_id=67

Haven't had a chance to look at or listen to any Alpines yet, but he JLs were awesome. Any suggestions or feedback would be great.

Thnx

I own a pair of JL XR650-CSi's. I love them, paired with my 12W6v2, it's a great sounding system.

There are lots of folks that say they are overrated, but out of all the speakers I listened to, they were the ones I liked most. That's the important thing to remember, buy what sounds best to you.

I've never heard the XR525s (so I can't comment on them directly), but if you have a Dremel tool, a sheet of MDF (both easily obtainable at Home Depot), and about 30 minutes, you can make baffles to fit the 6.5" comps in the front doors.
