1: you make it sound like ED has no clue in what they are doing, yet they are winnning comps
2: JL subs are not all in house parts. while the W7 is, their other subs are not. JL didn't even design all their parts in house for their lower level subs. and they also design many parts and have someone else build them. i used to have the manufacturers and part #'s that JL buys from. i will say that the parts are available to JL only, and no one else, but the suppliers also have products that are 99.9% identical

all the info i had on my home computer before it crashed was from the president of MAS loudspeakers. he was going to have me test out some car audio subs, but they decided to stick to home audio
3: no s***

but they make so many more, if they have the same % of returns for defects, they will have a higher # of returns

and ED builds their subs in house. they used to have destijl engineering build part of their subs, but because of problems, they decided to build everything themselves. so it is all in house, hand built subs

and to date i've only heard of one complaint on any of ED's new subs, and it was an A15 that the cone cracked, and the person got a brand new one under warranty.
4: that's like asking why ED doesn't make the exact same sub as adire

both are different. compare an ED A-series to a brahma. both have great SQ. both have great power handling. both are extremely linear. yet both are designed and built different than W7's and are still compared to W7's

W7's are great, and it gives a point for other companies to strive for, or beat
i know JL subs are great. there is no arguing that. but there are brands that can produce the same results with a lower cost. and like servoeyes said, without that nice discount, i bet you'd be running ED in your car
and here's a little info on xbl2 technology that adire audio patented, and resonant engineering uses.
1: they have less than a 5% decrease in BL over 24 mm of total excursion, while the next closest kind of motor topology was only 18 mm to a 5% decrease.
2: using xbl2, you get a sub with a shorter voice coil and top plate, meaning you get a sub that needs less mounting depth. my brahma 10 has a depth of 6.5", while a W7 needs 8".
3: because of it's design they have a lower moving mass and more clearance, which means dual spiders are not required for such a high excursion driver.
