Jiffy Lube

I hate jiffy lube. I used to work there and I saw this stuff happening that's why I quit.

Synthetic oil

I always had the feeling that when I paid extra for synthetic oil at a Valvoline shop I used to go to, they would just use regular oil and just charge me about $30 extra for it. If they won't let you inside the garage to see what they actually do, who can tell?

Yeah it's old but still good to bring up once in a while. I've been told about that place for years but didn't really believe all the stories until I saw the videos and read the horror stories. I used to go there years ago with my 626 and on more than one occasion they left the filter loose enough for the oil to leak a little. Since then I started going to the dealer or doing the oil changes myself. I would always stand and watch them though.

The story I heard was they used old filters or they would put a mark on the filter and change it every other oil change. Now, I don't doubt that one bit.

I now tell everyone I know to avoid that place like the plague. F*ck them!

wow, people like them need to be shot !!!
just seeing that video ... pretty interesting ... makes me wonder now
hmmmmmmmmm

i didnt work at JL but i did work at a quick lube place we only had regular oil in the guns and we had boxs of shenthetic and diesle oil all over the floor and we would use that when requested always changed the filters and we did a lot of the small things as well like grese zerts and check tranny and diff levels. but i think i worked at one of the good places.

I've always changed my own oil on every car I've ever owned. You get dirty sometimes but It's my car. Someone else will not care about your car like you do.

Scott.

Just to echo Dk's comments..... I also worked at a oil/lube/tires/alignment garage while in college.

The oil guns had 5W30 Dino oil. If someone requested synth, I went to the back and got a box of synth. We always changed the oil filter. I had customers request the old one, which I thought was weird. After a while, I realized it was because they were making sure I changed it. We always did!

JL? I have a free oil change waiting for me there that I will never use. They screwed up the first one in about every way they possibly could. I don't think the guy was dishonest though, just inept and pressured to go way faster than he was capable of.

I drive by jiffy lube everyday and about twice a week there is a bunch of idiot mechanics standing around a smoking car. They are some dumb they don't drain the old oil before putting in the new, which is exactly what they did to a buddy of mine.

After having them try to blame my brand new car for an oil leak, I'll never go back. They actually suggested that I probably had a cracked block.

The real problem: They didn't tighten the oil filter enough and it leaked oil directly onto the exaust pipe, causing smoke to billow at stop lights. I paid THEM good money for an oil change and ended up crawling under it myself to tighten the oil filter. Never again. I guess I should consider myself lucky that my problem wasn't catastrophic.

wow...I am not sure who is the loser in that situation...the people that are dumb enough to try to charge 300 dollars for an oil change or the person who was dumb enough to pay for it...

Took my last car, an E46 325i, to Jiffy Lube. I was in a hurry, trying to get everything packed for a road trip, and taking it to the dealership would have been a major PITA. So I ran it to Jiffy Lube, which was two blocks from my apartment at the time, so I could run back and finish packing.

The next day, I left to drive home from MO to TX. Halfway through Oklahoma, my oil light comes back on. Ok, I think, maybe they didn't put enough in, so I'll just top it off. I stop at a service station, buy a bottle and pour it in, and the light goes off. Looks like we are gravy. Right around the time I cross the OK/Texas border, light comes on again. Hmmm.

Bout an hour later it clicks off the yellow "hey, your oil might be a bit low" light to the red "get some ******* oil" light. I manage to limp back home, noticing oil leaking all over my garage floor and up the driveway. I call BMW Roadside to come get the car in the morning and take it to the BMW dealership I had just accepted a job offer from about a week earlier. The next day, we get it up on a lift to take a look...

BMW uses aluminum nuts/bolts and oil pan. It has very, very specific torque specifications, which were obviously not followed. The tech, and I use that description loosely, at JL way over tightend it, and ended up forcing the plug in to the oil pan. This in turn also cracked said oil pan. They had to drill out the nut, drain it, replace the pan, and the BMW tech (whom thank god I was friendly with), did a complimentry check to make sure the motor hand't been damaged. The over all cost of parts was 300 bucks, and I slipped the tech some cash for his services.

I called up the Jiffy Lube, told them the situation, and faxed them a copy of my invoice and services from the BMW dealership. They tried to say it was my fault, and that I could have hit a bad pot hole or something, to which I informed them that wouldn't have been the issue, as they had at least properly reinstalled the undershield. They told me to shove it. I gave the family lawyer a call, and three days later I had $340 (cost of the oil change was $40) credited back to my account.

I knew there had to be more to that story ;)

**** the mechanics. The only person I trust to fix my car is myself. That's why I've done changes and modifications myself.
