JIC ? vs TEIN SS

I'm looking for coilovers for the spring, I use the car for AutoX and am pretty competitive, so I want a good setup.
I figure I should be able to get either the JIC's or Tein's for around the same price ($1300US).
I know some folks who race in the same series I do with Tein's on other kinds of cars, and they are really happy with them.
The SS come in the spring rates I want. They are 16 way adjustable.

Can anyone compare the JIC's to the TEIN's for me? What model JIC compares to the SS? Anybody tried both?

Any vendors looking at this are welcome to send me a PM with a quote, I will be buying in the next couple of months.

For AutoX I think the best setup available is the JIC FLTA2. I haven't had mine completely set up yet so you'd have to ask some of the other board members with their experiences with those. But I doubt you'll be able to find them for the price you're looking at.

The Tein SS you should be able to get for much less than $1300. I'm guessing you'll easily get them for around $1200-$1300, and a good deal would be around $1000-1100, while some people have been trying to swing under $1000 but I'm not sure that's possible.

JIC has a lower model that would fit your price range but it's probably not hardcore enough, because it's only 5-way adjustable. This is the JIC FLTA1.

If you're buying online, try asking Rishie (ARD MP5), I'm sure he'll be able to hook you up.

on the topic of JIC's, why the hell is the rear spring rate so low compaired to the front? if you look on the JIC website almost all other sets have the same or very close spring rate in the rear compaired to the front. some even have a higher rate in the rear

Others have posted that this was a typo on the website. Some have claimed that they're actually 7 kg front, 6 kg rear (instead of 7 kg front, 4 kg rear). I am in contact with JIC for warranty service so maybe I'll ask them for clarification next time.

Well my plan if I get the Tein's would be to swap springs front to rear.
I found someone selling the SS's for $1170.
What sort of price would the FLTA2 run for??

I am guesstimating that you can find them for $1600 with no problem and that anything less than that would be a pretty good deal. Check the JIC site for the MSRP... I think it's over $1800 but of course no one pays that.

As for the spring rate typo, I wonder how someone found out. Maybe the springs are marked somewhere, but you'd have to spin down the ride-height collar to be able to see it... it'd be nice if one of those people who found out chimed in right about now =)

lemme kno if u find prices on the JICs, I am also looking for some within the next month or two....

Rishie sells them but has been busy so i havent heard back from him with a price yet...

I have the JIC FLT-A2's and I only have good things to exept my car now feels as if it rides on rails and it handles way to good ! :)

I think the Tein SS dampers for the Protege are a more street oriented kit. The JICs definitely have a more racing oriented model.

Just to throw something into the mix, there is SRR who makes aluminum race coilovers for the Protege
http://www.srr-racing.com/suspension_s1coilover.htm

Their rep in Toronto actually stopped by to talk to me & Tax last year at one of the car shows . . might be worth a thought as they did sponsor a time trial day in 2002, and might be willing to talk some kind of sponsorship arrangement since I don't see their products too well publicized at the moment, and it looks like they make some serious racing gear.

the JIC A1's are suppose to be more street orientated than than the A2's which are 15 way adjustable opposed to the 5 way ont he A1

id be hesitant to buy from SRR just cuz i dont know of anyone running their setup to vouch for them, AND they are 1900 bucks....

what do you mean by street oriented vs track oriented?

I do NOT want under any circumstances for my suspension to be any worse than the stock MSP setup. If it is better that is great but not neccesary. I thought that adjusting dampening was adjusting the stiffness, so you could make any 15 way adjustable shock either super stiff for auto-x or super soft for street, or maybe in the middle to mimic stock MSP capabilities or something

can anyone enlighten me? If both are adjustable how is one more streetable than the other? Also, how easy to adjust are the Tein SS?
