JIC Magic FLT-A2 Coilovers Rubbing on MSP?

Hey. I've heard of the flt-a2's rubbing on MSP's due to the high offset wheels, is there anyway to fix this besides getting lower offset wheels? Secondly, I've heard that since they are made of aluminium, something bad happens from driving them in the winter. Any info? Thanks a lot.

they rub on the drivers side. more info here plus ways to fix it on the msp.

as far as the aluminum, historically, aluminum + salt + water = rust machine. this can easily be solved with either a strut boot made from some sort of neoprene, or marine axle grease. simply coat the entire thing in marine axle grease, and it'll keep all water off of the strut body and it won't rust. its a pain in the ass to wash off in the summer though.

alright, so, if i don't drop it like it's hot, then I should be fine? anyone else have any input or things i should be aware of with these?

the FLT A2 will rub on a MSP with stock wheels. A friend of mine bought these coilovers for her car and has had them for 4 months without putting them on.

you can either get wheels spacers, but then you need longer lugs cause you won't have enough threads left on the stock ones, or you can make the slots longer at the top of the coilover to increase the angle that they bolt to the car. but you still may need a spacer. or you can get wheels with a different offset... they're a pain in the ass, and JIC won't accept returns even for a never used product. i have always hated JIC and this is another reason why

I think it'll be fine without longer studs with just 5mm spacers, but i'll check once I get the spacers. The handling with these things is amazing.

Brian you can find longer studs releativly cheap in jegs or summit i think they are the same as a camaro uses so they are easy to get. but just search or check the pitch and thread so you get the right ones i think micaspeed once posted which ones were needed. Cheers

Cool, thanks Bill. I saw that post by dave, so I might end up getting those studs. We'll see how much thread engagement I get, don't want the wheels falling off, lol. I'll let everyone know how it goes with the spacers once I get them. As of now I'm driving around on my slipstreams/azenis.

Btw, are you still thinking about doing onelap? Could be cool. I <3 your car, can't wait to see how the mp3 steering rack goes.

I am having a bit of trouble getting the car done in time for this year since i already have 48 hours in at work this week. hopefully flatblack and i will be doing the manifold saturday but i have no idea when i will get to do the steering rack but it is in my garage. I just won't feel right without forged rods for onelap so it may be 2006 onelap for me. I say buy the studs first I once drove a subaru that does 1 lap every year that had enough stick to break the stock wheel studs off. much cheaper to do the swap then trying to figure out what that noise was...

Wow, I didn't know you could break them that way lol. I'll definitely get them for my next mod, but I need the cash first, so we'll see. Hopefully stock studs will be good enough for a little while though. If I don't get enough thread engagement I'll definitely spring for the studs now though.

Oh yeah, and just in case anyone is searching in the future, they rub like a b**** and I'm currently trying to fix it. Get different wheels if you can, they don't rub on my rota's.

~brian

rub like a mofo on my rota's... but it has to do with the curb protector edge on the tires... somethign to keep in mind for JIC peeps.

205/45/17 on +48 Rota Tarmac...

Hell if they shave .5 seconds of fmy auto-x time they'll have been worth every bit of hastle! Interested to see what it'll be like driving on them.

I'm all but positive that if I didn't have the big ass curb protector on these Bridgestones it wouldn't be an issue.
