Jet CHIP ecu upgrade

:
2004 Mazda3 Hatchback
Hey guys just emailed jet and they have an application for an ecu upgrade. Heres what they said:

We do have an ECU upgrade available for your application. The ECU
upgrade
does require that the factory ECU be sent to us for modification. You
must
purchase the upgrade package before sending the ECU to us for the
modification. Suggested retail is $399.00, and the part number is
65002. The
ECU upgrades are all done per the application, in other words, do all
the
modifications you intend on doing before you get the ECU upgraded. That
way
the program can be set up for the specific modifications. Hp gains
would be
dependant on the extent of modifications.

hmm...ask them what specifically they do to the ecu and if you do decide to have this done make sure to dyno your car, ship them the ecu and the day you get it back re-dyno it IMMEDIATLY. I highly doubt you'll get more than 5whp but if you do let me know. I'll buy it.

if your guys' ecu is as badly tuned(for performance) as the mp5 ecu's are/were then you should see more than 5whp if they tuned it correctly for your mods, especially if you have a decent amount of mods like cai, exhaust, header, cams, cam gears then you SHOULD be able to get 10-15whp out of ecu tuning easily, im not sure what they are tuning though and how they tune it based on what you SAY you have on your car(they must have info from the parts manufacturers or something i would think) i mean you know the air/fuel ratio and maybe timing will be played with but what else....hm.

There's another company that is producing a chip. I personally would stay away from JET. I've owned both a Jeep Cherokee and a Pontiac Vibe, and in both those forum communities, nothing but bad things were generally said about Jet chips. The money is better spent on a REAL ECU upgrade from a better company.

Draxas is in contact with one of these companies now: http://www.mazda3forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=13411&highlight=ecu

I also hear that Predator is making a reflasher for our vehicles as well, and there should be good gains out of that.

Stay away from Jet ;)

What they could be doing is replacing the factory chip with a programed chip. Most ECU chips are socketed (or used to be) and you could just open up the computer and pop the new chip in. Volkwagen kept thier's soldered so you sent the ECU out and the company removed the old chip and soldered in the new one. For the most part a normaly asperated car (no turbo or S-charger) will not see great gains. Turbo cars can see tremendous gains with a new ECu.

The ECU has to be reflashed, there is no installing a chip. I do agree that on some n/a cars there is little hp/tq gains to be had. But most want it for the other things it can do. Mail order chips are only good for that. If you want the most from your car you will go with something that is tune-able on the dyno, like SCT. I will be waiting for the self tuner so I can flash and tune the ecu myself on a dyno.
