JDM_Pro5's Build Thread

I was looking around since I'll be getting the whole car done once I can get it running and I feel good at where it's at. But knowing that it's going to cost me 3-4K for paint alone, not including all the other cosmetic mods I want to do it's going to be hard to do it.

cost me 5k when i repainted but I paid cost for everything and worked right beside the painter, the clear alone on my car was $700(PPG). IMO if you trust the painter and know he does good work that do the respray, but if you don't and you think its going to come out alright run away. Nothing worst than having to paint a car again cause the first job sucked( been there too)

Definitely. I have close to $5k in exterior mods, Don't want to spend that again for paint. Hopefully this guy will trade me work for wheels and we can figure out how much he is willing to do. I want the bumper, lip, and sides of the hood done for sure. If I have anything extra, I'll have to decide what needs it most. Once I have the front end painted, I'll get met S204 lip. I'm also waiting on a CF DG grill

^I'm right there with you. I've got so much in performance mods and have been ignoring cosmetic. The wheels I want are going to be 2-3K alone and then dropping another 3-4K on paint is going to be difficult but I can't have an amazing performing car but not enjoy looking at it.

eventually you'll both learn numbers and prices mean nothing. I gave up keeping track 3 years ago just to keep myself sane, if you want the hobby you have to pay to play. Hell i could have one nice new car for the price of the mods in the old eco box.

I want mine to look pretty and be reliable. My budget has been divided about 50/50 between cosmetic and reliability. I'm not worried about making my car any faster, I'll drive a pretty car, even if it's 100hp lol

I understand. I know I will end up putting plenty of money into it. The question is, how long will it take to save this money and what purchases are more important

I'm more than willing to pay to play but only to a certain extent. There's no point to this build if I end up spending more money in it in a small amount of time than it would've been to go out and buy a nice sports car with more support and capability. I love the P5 because it has sentimental value and it's been a great knowledge base but it doesn't mean I'm willing to put $50K in it either. My goal is to have a reliable 400hp car with great handling for less than 25K invested. And so far it looks like it'll be a success as long as everything goes according to plan.

No family here either, but i think im just getting tired of wasting money on things i cant drive for 6 months of the year. Time to waste money on a larger house and garage.

I hear ya, man. I should save for a house/garage too.

I got lucky, being in the military you never know if you're getting a large house or if you'll get a garage or not. Where I'm currently stationed I just so happen to have both and it's a 2 car garage. :)

That's killer. We got a 4 bedroom 2 bath for cheap. It's right across the street from my mother-in-law's. Little to no storage :(
All cars are in the driveway

I'm a boy among men here, lol. I don't have to worry about buying a house yet, or paying bills, or buying food. Haha.

I will say though, I wish I was able to buy a house. It sucks not being able to make changes you want. Worse thing is that I've organized my garage in a manner that I like but also in a way that it doesn't seem permenant. Can't hang anything on the walls like tools because I'll have to fix any damage i cause to them.

I really hope you get along with your in-laws to be living across the street from them. I live about 3 hours from mine and I still think thats too close (bang) LOL

She keeps to herself because she is a hermit lol. We are slowly flipping this house and will upgrade in the next 5-10 years. New roof, new carpet, fresh paint. Needs windows, vinyl siding, and central air. Then I can sell it for double what I paid

Sounds like a solid plan, but I hope your housing market is better down there than it is up here. Me and the mrs. stuck just shy of $25k into the house last year... gained appraisal value of jack s***.
