I've just replaced my stolen Speed with......

About a month and half ago, my beloved Titanium MSP was stolen from the parking lot of a bar I had gone to on a Friday night.(pissed)

Worse than the actual shock of the loss was the thought that I might not be able to get another one, as I so loved that car dearly!:'( So I started shopping around for other cars.

I test drove the following cars in a price range similar to the MSP:

Mazda 3 GT
Mazda 6 4cyl.
Dodge SRT-4 (yupnope)
Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS

I was not impressed with ANY of them. For the money I was willing to spend, no other car even came CLOSE to what the MSP has to offer, IMHO!

So, when the insurance finally settled 40 days later, I went out and got myself.......(drum roll please)........ANOTHER MAZDASPEED PROTEGE!!!!!!!!!!(yippy) (yippy)

I found one on a local Mazda Internet Forum similar to this one where the guy wanted to give up his lease and contacted him. I just finalized the handover two days ago. It's another Titanium exactly the same as mine in every respect.

AND to make it even more interesting: It has lower mileage than mine did when it was stolen, the new lease allows for more annual mileage and came in at $30/mth LESS than I was paying before INCLUDING an extended warranty!!!!!! (yes)

Am I one happy camper? YOU BET!!!!!!!(rockon)

And oh yeah, the only mod the guy did was to tune the suspension settings to make the car's steering response even MORE quicker than it already was! The bloody thing steers like a go-kart! Flicking the wheel just two millimiters to either side, the car instantly shoots over one lane! I LOVE IT!!!!!(flash)

He said he had the dealer change the wheel alignment settings to make the front wheels point outwards slightly (toe out?) and changed a part on the struts that allows for greater camber or caster (not sure which) adjustment.

He did warn me that this might tend to wear the front tires unevenly, but that if this concerned me, I could always tell them to adjust it back to standard specs. But who cares! It feels great! I'll just have to rotate them more often that's all.

That's cool, but adjusting toe-out like that will definitely burn through those sneakers.

I'm sure you already tought of it but, the first mod I would do if I were you is upgrading your new MSP's alarm so you won't get it stolen again.
Personnaly I'm looking in changing mine, There were 3 stolen in 2 months near my place so I won't take any chances.

There were 3 stolen in 2 months near my place so I won't take any chances.

And whereabouts in the Montreal area would that be? Just asking so I know if I should start getting paranoid!

I'm from Laval and we've had a rash of MSP thefts over here recently. I know of two others, in addition to mine, that were stolen recently in Laval.

I actually had to pay a slightly higher insurance premium to insure the new Speed - not because of the theft claim, (though that too will happen come renewal time)(pissed) but because from the time I got the first one, they've since moved this model to a higher risk category due to its claims history. So there must have been quite a few of these stollen or totalled.

Seems there's a crew going after them, and other MAzda's in general, in the greater MTL area.

I got the Titanium b/c I like the color but also b/c I thought it will be more discreet so thefts wouldn't notice it... But most cars stolen this summer were Titaniums!!!
