hey y'all, i have been playing around with fiberglass for a while now and can have gotten good enough to make a plate (color of your choice) that would take the place of the shifter boot on the short shifted 3. the plate reminds you of a italian race car with the slots in the plate instead of the boot, the boot looks freaking horrible with the short shifter, right now twm is the only short shifter out, so that is what i will be using to model the plate after, let me know what you all would think and if you would buy one or not

Sounds like a cool upgrade. How much, and where are the pictures?

hey man, I was about to order a custom shiftboot from Redline goods b/c I have a short shifter, and I agree it looks like crap w/ the oem boot....If you can get me some more details today then I'll hold off.....

For examble, what colors can yo do??? WHat about C/F finish on it...i think that should look awesome...but it'd have to be the same c/f pattern thats right under the radio display/clock.....

Time frame?? If i say yes now...when can I expect it in my hands???

Also, are you sure the fiberglass wont crack when it gets abused by the shifter??

Are you looking at making anything else??

what i was going to do is send them out with a grey primer so they can be painted to your wish, carbon fiber----HELL NO, but i could throw the carbon fiber vinyl on if you want

Thats what I meant....but how do you think it'll look???? I dont want anything "ricey" or cheap looking...Do you have a pic of another H-plate in a car similiar to the 3?? Or any pic of an H-plate....I've seen them before but I'm not that creative right now to pic it

as for your other questions, it could be a week before i have a working model and i havent figured out how to sell them.....not a business man, the strength of the product is still unknown, thinking of starting with a metal backing and then add the fiberglass and paint for the smooth look

most of your fararris and lambos have the plate, and i will work real hard for it not to look ricey

Gated shifter. Sounds cool and great price. Free bump for joo!

Make sure you talk to the Admins to get AV Status before you start slingin on the forum. They will put you on lock down.

If you can make metal ones I suggest you offer those too. I would be worried about the FG cracking.

right now i am trying to get an idea if people would even want them. and i would have to figure out a way for sales becuase i am not a business guy, just a dude who is slick in fiberglass
and for $10+shipping, you will probably get a few of them just in case you do break them

He's not a vendor, he's just handy and is trying to help us all out...if they put him on "lock-down" for that then thats BS....thats like me putting a post about a product I like that I think others will...it could be viewed as promoting a product for sales, but I'm not...I'm just spreading the word...
Not bashing you, just sayin git would be BS..

As for the topic at hand...here's an idea....If you can construct a metal/steel backing thats Larger than the fiberglass top finish...it might work out...In other words build it so the shifter never touches the fiberglass, b/c the bottom layer of metal is slightly longer which is what takes the abuse from the shifter...just an idea..dont know if it'll work or is even possible...but sounds ok.

if you all have any ideas or other things that may help us get these made, feel free to im me at triedntrue782 on aim

He said he didnt know about selling product. I am saying that when and if it comes time to sell then you need AV status or they will get pissed. It's all posted in the rules. A thread like this (guaging interest) is fine.

The problem I've found with my idea after I mapped out doing the same thing on the Protege is that with a short shifter, the throw down near where the bottom of the boot would be makes it so there wouldn't be any room for the gates between the gears. The one posted earlier was actually not made for the Protege, but a picture of one for a Ferrari, made out of titanium, and used as an example picture. If you have the throw or the means to do it, that'd be cool, but the throw is so short, even stock, that you'll be hard pressed to make it look like much more than an opening with little bumps between the gears.
