I was wondering if anyone notices this sound coming from their car...ONLY when I let go of the accelerator there is this sound, its like a metal hissing sound or something. if I press in the clutch it goes away. is this normal??? please help :(

maybe?
could be your throw-out bearing.
or clutch chattering...
is it an aftermarket clutch?
does it tick also? if not then maynot be what im sayin here.

It's most likely the Short Shifter. My KB makes a little transmission noise, too. :)

It's probably either the shifter or just the tranny making the noise. The transmissions make a good bit of whining.

The urethane bushings are much more stiff than the stock rubber one, so the NVH (noise/vibration/harshness) is more prevalent. Nothing to worry about. ;)

If you do the short shifter (B&M or Kartboy) w/o the urethane bushing, do you still get additional NVH? Is it still worth doing the shifter w/o the bushing?

I think it is. I have the B&M-lookalike shifter off eBay for $50 and it feels fine right now. Wondering if I should put in the Kartboy bushings or not... (dunno)

strange, i just noticed that noise today. i've had my kartboy shifter and bushings in for a month, and i heard it for the first time today. it happens when i coast out of 5th gear. when i press the gas or let the clutch in, it's gone. i posted the same question in another thread and i just wanted to make sure it was just the bushings and not my tranny being torn apart.

Just installed the bushings, noticed the sound. A little annoying, but I like the new shift feel more than I dislike the noise.

I went ahead and did the KB bushing install. After all, it was sitting in my basement calling out to me. :)

So, now that I've had the shifter and bushings on for about a week, I can say that the B&M shifter feel is more precise, but it's also very notchy. I almost have to yank the shifter out of first to put it into second.

Some people like that, but I am personally trying to get used to it. I kinda liked the feel of just the B&M with stock bushings, as it was a big change from stock, but was still relatively easier to shift. Well, then again, this is my first manual car and I've only just learnt to drive manual 2 months ago. I'm LOVING IT!!! (drive)

If you are hearing metal grinding noise, it might be the heat shield touching the bottom of the shifter. My KartBoy shifter did that and I had to put some washers between heat shield to stop the noise.
