Is this a good price?

My local Mazda dealer has an arrangement with my employer that gives me (and any of my colleagues) invoice price off the bat without the need to haggle. I figured that I'd be able to just use this as a starting price and negotiate down from there, but after about an hour or so of prodding it seems that this "bottom line" price truly is his bottom line.

What are your experiences with Mazda dealers? I know right now the large auto makers are bending over backwards with nice incentives as a way to drive sales after a slow winter, and this guy won't even entertain the idea of talking about a below invoice price.

What do you think? I'm going to call a guy at the other dealer in town who claims they "never get beat on price" and see what he has to say.

By the way I'm planning on buying a 3 i Touring Hatchback with a moon roof and tech package!

What price were you being quoted?

For your config, are you looking for a manual or automatic trans?

I was looking for that same config but in a manual. I could only find one in the mid west. It was silver so I went with an iGT manual hatchback.

Let us know how you make out.

When I was looking the silver iT manual hatch with tech was $21,500 was the best price before tax/title/tags. I ended up with the iGT manual hatch for $22,500 before tax/titl/tags

Go on to truecar.com and get some quotes sent to you. I've had dealers "beat themselves" by providing a quote through that service that was lower than their "best offer" in person.

Invoice Prices:
Base i Touring Automatic Hatchback: $20,224
Tech Package: $1,376
Moonroof: $688
Red Paint: $258
Wheel Locks: $44
Destination: $795

Total: $23,684

Plus 8.75% NY sales tax = 2,072, plus $200ish in registration.

Grand total: $25,956 out-the-door.

For $23684, you should be getting either an iGT HB auto or an S Touring HB. I got my iGT auto HB Snowflake for $22500 before tax/title. They threw in all-weather mats, wheel locks, and cargo net. If I can do it over, i would get the S Touring model. Your best plan is to find the best internet price within 500 miles and have your local dealers compete with each other to match or beat the price. Good luck

The "Factory Invoice" on your car with all the extras is $24,372 according to Truecar.com, which means you paid $1,872 below invoice. Did your price include the Destination Fee or any extra incentives?

I guess I will have to cast a wider net online to see what kinds of prices I can get.

The price included the $795 Destination Fee, but I also got the $750 Loyalty discount. Right now a local Mazda dealer has an S Touring sedan auto for $21888 and an iGT sedan auto for $21988. If I wasn't so set on getting a HB, I would have gotten the S Touring instead.

Does everyone think it's typical to buy a 3 for $1000 or so below invoice?

Thanks, makes me wonder, however, how many Mazda dealers there are between San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento? There are 3 between Buffalo and Rochester NY, so I wonder if comparing prices is apples to oranges in terms of market competition driving down prices.

Location and number of dealers definitely makes a difference. Your best bet is to search online within a certain radius and use that as your bargaining price. Never be afraid to walk away until you get a price you're comfortable with. And get as many accessories you can get thrown in up until you sign the dotted line.

Only with specific discounts. Normally when you see cars advertised with a significant discount, those are specific, manufacturer promotional discounts. Such as owner loyalty. No, I don't think it is "typical", but it can be done. The other thing is when they were sold. Early adopters got significantly better discounts than later folks as demand has increased.

I agree with cxville.

Right now is probably the highest demand. Probably a lot of tax refund money floating around. Plus the 3 is the latest and greatest in the class.
The longer you can wait the better it will be to make a deal.

I realize it does not help you when you want to buy soon.

I get what you're saying. People are starting to come out of hibernation and might have some extra cash on hand, however, it's my understanding that Mazda is hurting pretty bad right now for sales, way below projections. Walk into a Kia or Toyota dealer and there are people lining up to talk with a sales guy. Mazda showroom is sleepy by comparison so I'm not suprized to hear about the low numbers.
