Is the bloom off the rose for CX-5 or is it just a model year changeover glitch?

My guess is because the 2016s were shipping to dealers in February. And the infotainment system on 2014/2015 cx5s were poorly reviewed with lots of connectivity issues.

Ha! I saw that too. I scanned through the summary and for the first time did not see CX-5 mentioned. Then saw the numbers. Ooof. I think inlinev has it right, Mazda has had feedback for a long time that the infotainment was sub-par. I have been holding off a year and a half because of that. Not sure if Mazda buyers are always in the know, but it seems like it. If you are Joe average buyer, you might not know something was coming.
That being said, I think it is strange to not have the builder on the site when the cars are available, but still show that a new model is coming. It seems like if you did that, your sales would drop suddenly, oh.......

It is unprofessional to have folks buying 2016s and telling us more details about them than available from the U.S. website.

Yeah I'm thinking people are sitting on their hands waiting for incentives and dealerships to negotiate on the 16's.

Also consider the miserable weather all around the country last month. That had to hurt sales too.

Yes, I wonder when this will happen. I am trying to work out a deal right now and most are only budging $400 and many are just sending me a quote for the 2015 instead of the 2016 that I requested... not sure if they think I can be convinced I don't know what I want but it's extremely frustrating!!!! I will not pay MSRP because within months I am sure they will be offering incentives. I will wait... I would prefer to buy now as I need another car in the family (my 16 year old gets my existing car and I take the new one) but won't pay 1-2K more. Frustrating! I have even had several tell me they wont quote over the internet... I told them to be considered they will have to because it isn't practical for me to drive everywhere just for a price quote. This really is why buying a car is a pain... sooooooooo much game playing.

Bob - did you have any dealers you worked with in So Cal that were willing to work a deal(other than where you purchased)? I realize not the deal you received, but are there other dealers you would recommend checking out?

Well, I don't think the new infotainment center is not the end all, be all. The nav seems to be a bit better. I like the new layout and command knob. The screen is beautiful. But I think they took a step back with the radio/Sirius setup. Still love the vehicle overall, though. ;-)

I wouldn't be surprised if a large part of the drop is due to the popularity of the other models.
Many people cross shop a mazda 3 vs cx-5 vs mazda 6. All those cars are in the same price range, and are very similar inside and out.
This year, more so than a year ago, the CX-5 is getting serious competition from the mazda 3 and the mazda 6.

I for one, came to the mazda dealer looking for a Mazda 3 hatch, but the 2013 Mazda 3 skyactiv felt way too much like a Frankenstein car. Every part of the car was put together at a different time. The drivetrain was new, the body was old, one LCD screen didn't match the other ect.

Mike Nash at HB Mazda. He made me an offer of $30,100 for a 16' specd out similar to mine. Good luck. Won't give a quote over the Internet?? That is BS. Maybe try calling them. I gave them my work cell and got tons of calls. Then when it was done I simply said I was out of the market and now they don't call anymore or even spam my email.

Mazda reported a 20.4% drop in North American sales for the CX-5 in February compared to Feb., 2014. The rest of the line did well for a total volume increase of 6.4%. But it was sure a rocky month for their volume leader! http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/mazda-reports-february-sales-300044625.html

This is interesting... in checking it out a little closer with their competitors, I don't think it can all be explained that everyone was waiting on the new 2016's to hit... many consumers don't do that extra digging. I checked many other crossovers... and all are up for 2015! CRV, RDX, Santa Fe, Sorento, etc. They are up 8-20%+. In sales, this definitely equates to a loss in market share. That is a pretty huge dip when all of the other crossovers I checked had a substantial increase year over year. Hopefully this will equate to incentives... this will be interesting to see how March and April play out!

Great info... thanks for posting!

For what it's worth, I had a very positive sales experience with Paul Galindo @ Bob Baker Mazda in Carlsbad back in Oct., 2012. When cars of my color and spec were in short supply and no one in Northern Calif. would give me the price I was looking for (which, as I recall was right around invoice less $500 loyalty owner's cash), they readily agreed to meet my price on one of two matching cars they had just gotten in. I flew down two days later, they picked me up at the San Diego Airport and I took delivery of a perfectly-prepared Sky Blue Touring (and believe me, I'm really anal about the way a car is delivered!). It was a very relaxed transaction too. I would recommend giving him a call.

Curious how the strike by dock workers on the west coast affected numbers. Mazda's US Port of Entry is still in Tacoma?

Fantastic... I will check them out... looks like Bob had a good experience too.

I had a very frustrating day yesterday and everyone today is still just as bad... they all keep pricing out 2015's or touring over grand touring. I get so excited when I get an email and it's the wrong car, wrong year or NO discount at all!!!! My favorite is the internet dept not giving a price through email only in person... hello? What don't they get about INTERNET department. If I wanted to walk in I could have handled that without emailing them first.

My guess is the weather had a lot to do with it...

Maybe a lot of people have decided to wait for the CX-3?
