Is rear A/C independent of front A/C in Auto mode?

Just wondering guys whether the rear A/C is independent from front, well we use Auto most of the times , and sometimes the rear ac airflow speed seems to increase a little while the front stays the same (u can hear increased airflow sound) , is it independent or is something wrong with my ears !!
NOTE: Rear Control is OFF
