Is my p5 totally screwed?

So...im at work right now so cant check anything for awhile.

Im a little bit worried.

My p5 has had a CEL for awhile now..its just due to a dirty MAF sensor so im not worried about it.

Ive also got a squeeky Alternator belt which has been causing a number of problems but will be replaced within a day.

Heres my concern.
While driving to work today (50 mile trek in 110 degrees) my car started bogging.

It did it for about 3 seconds then ran fine.
I was running late and close to work i Floored it at a light to just see what happend... The car hit 4k rpm's in 2nd gear and did..not...do...ANYTHING...it just sat there at 4k...started to sputter, then it revved back up but i gained no speed.

I get to work...

I go out to lunch 20 mins ago. and when i start the car up it is barely able to start. it wont crank. it wont turn over..then it starts outta nowhere with a SUPER rough idle and is making a strange sound like is trying to pull in air (I have an SRI and clean filter) and it sounded like i was flooring it (gurgly pretty SRI sound) which i usually dont get unless moving.

I then notice the CEL is blinking along with the car running like total crap while driving..it has no power, it sputters, and it feels like it wants to die. but under constant acceleration (like a freeway) it runs fine..Im thinkin its possibly just a EGR or sensor loose or something..anyone seen anything like this ? i know its kinda hard to picture in ur head based on how i explained it. Any ideas im open to.

That does sound like an EGR problem. I would clean the egr, the sensors, and check that code and find out what its telling you !!

will do both. and ima swap out that Alt belt ASAP. Im thinking of putting the stock intake back on until i get this sorted out.

Are you sure the belt is tight? It could just be loose. And I've heard the stock intake mod in the 'how-to' section is the BEST way to go.

It doesn't sound like it's "screwed"...but I would pull the code asap. It is probably the MAF or something air/fuel related. Maybe a coil pack is going? The code will tell you more.

a flashing cel often means unburned fuel is getting into the cat, typically a misfire. Pull the codes and start replacing what you know to be bad (hi)

yes ur car is screwed sell it to me fast so i can strip whats good off of it for my project!!!!!!1(rockon)

Sorry for the late response was busy 4th/
Well

I replaced the belt (alt) ..the belt that was on there was unimaginably shredded..i honestly have no clue how it was still on the car.

I cleaned the MAF/ Ran some expensive fuel / injector cleaner and it seems to have fixed a majority of the problems.

No more blinking CEL but still a CEL. I am still going to put back on the stock intake in a day or 2. Im also going to clean the throttle body seeing as it def needs to be done. Guess ill go from there. thanks for the help guys

Ya ive def still got some hesitation. Im gonna replace the whole intake and clean the TB before i spend $200 on the MAF :p im sure i could get one significantly cheaper if i try but thats the last resort seeing as its the most expensive. i take the common sense approach and do the cheapest stuff first :p my filter on my stock intake is stil brand new. and the cleaner air as compared to my SRI (which is still dirty even after cleaning it twice).

Should be done with this stuff in a day or 2. Ill post results.

Ill also look into the coil packs. im not sure how expensive they are but seeing as i have 110 k miles. theres a good chance they need to be changed anyway. I changed the plugs like 15k ago so there good. Also an oil change is in order.. bleh..i hate ignoring my car and then doing everything at once.

So have you pulled the code before? Is that how you know the CEL is MAF related? You may now be throwing multiple codes, and they will help you figure what needs to be done. Coil packs sound like the next thing to try.

Ya i was throwing multiple codes and actually paid a shop to run them and do a full diagnostic. they narrowed it down the the MAF and throttle body.
Im gonna clean the TB very soon..and i think im gonna go ahead and swap out the coil packs for the heck of it.

im gonna miss the sound of my SRI till i get all this fixed tho :( ...not to mention i have to buy tires in 2 weeks..(goodbye $300 dollars)

You should probably fix the known problems before throwing random parts at it. Cleaning the TB and MAF takes maybe 20 minutes so I'd do that first if I were you. Could save you some cash.

I'd suggest borrowing a code reader and pulling the codes yourself before you start plunking down $$. I wouldn't trust what any shop "told" me. Besides, your P5 may be throwing different codes now, AND reading the codes will tell you what problems have been fixed (i.e. no code for X problem).

Ive got a friend who has a brand new obdII reader. and another friend thats a mechanic for cadillac..so combined between the 3 of us i hope we can figure it out :p just need a day off!!
