Is knock retard normal for this car?

I swear, everytime I get on the highway I go through a 5 minute stretch where I'm getting knock retard of 3-6 constantly. It seems to only happen when I'm cruising on the highway for a period of time, though. Normal city driving doesn't trigger it.

Just kind of annoying...wondering if it's normal, because I'm basically stock right now.

Completely normal. Mine has reduced a bit with the ETS 3.25" TMIC, Denso ITV22 step-colder plugs, and warmer weather.

i hit a 6.7 sometimes and then the spark adv. kicks in and it goes down steadily. occasionally it may be just a false reading if your inbetween shifts or if your cruise lets off going down a hill but yes...normal. just make sure your not hitting above a 2.0 on WOT. otherwise your all set.

I only get concerned about KR at WOT anymore. And I still get a little occasionally which is why I'm putting in the ITV22's very soon...

knock, and subsequent retard is normal on any car.

plug a DH in something else and log it, esp something with higher compression and/or boosted. you'll see.

i've written up some info about this before- i've been involved with a stand alone engine management tuning shop setup program for several years and i've yet to see a car, when KS activity is monitored in realtime, that DOESN'T see some level of knock almost all the time in some respect. the main issue is whether the knock is actual pinging, or engine vibes, or what. yes, yesh, i know they compensate for all the dynamics of a running and revving engine/vehicle, but sometimes it can fool a KS enough to make it think something is occuring.

I made a few pulls and the max i registered was a 1.4 degree of knock retard during a WOT run. I am guessing this is not too terrible? Right now i am on the stock airbox with a turbo inlet pipe and the Cobb AP with the Stage 1 stock style map for 91 octane. Have 93 octane in the car as always. Do you need plugs with the Stage 1 map AND the Stage 1+ maps?

I think Christian at some point recommended every map be used with one step colder plugs. It certainly couldn't hurt to install a set of ITV22's

Will do then, going to order some today. As an interesting side note, when i rarely get it cruising it would randomly pop up a 0.3 for a split second and then disappears. Today it was 0.0 the whole time with normal city driving and i had a split second 6.7 (exactly like the guy above) and then it was at 0.0 the rest of the time. No WOT here, it was just driving around, maybe on a hill, not sure. Seems weird that we got the exact same number randomly just driving around, ideas?

hmm not to thread jack but is it normal to not have any knock whatsoever? i bought a dashhawk like a week ago and have been checking everything out including KR. it just stays at 0.0. doesnt matter if im at WOT or just cruising its always at 0.0

Set an alert for KR. You'll see it eventually. If you just let it sit there on the screen you'll never see it unless you spend all of your time staring at the screen and not the road.

I get KR maybe once a week for very brief moments.

I usually only get KR when I got WOT. Sometimes if I'm going up a hill in 6th gear i'll get it too but that because i was being lazy and not downshifting.
