Is i-activsense an Option?

I was emailing with a local dealer for a price on the 2016 GT CX5 with the Technology package. She responded with the following: "The 2016 CX-5 Grand Tourings also offer an i-Activesense package which will include Mazda Radar Cruise Control with close proximity Warning, Smart City Break Support System with Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and High Beam Control. This package is an additional $1,500". I don't see any option for this during the "build your own" on Mazda's site. The Tech package says it includes the Smart city break and a couple of headlight controls but nothing about the collision warning systems. Can someone clarify? Did Mazda modify the tech package and create a new one for the I-Activsense options?

In the US, early reports are that it is a new package for the 2016's. The website may still be configured for the 2015 pricing. US pricing and packages haven't been publically announced in any official channel yet, AFAIK.

IIRC, they moved Smart City Braking (EAB) out of Tech package and into the newly created Safety Package, which now includes all of the i-activesense features. To compensate, they added LED exterior lights (headlights, DRLs, brake, etc.) to the Tech package.

Thanks for the response. Looks like they moved out the Smart City Break Support system and the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) from the tech package. I can't see how they can justify the same price for the tech package by adding in LED lights in their place. What a ripoff. I thought all the 2016's were coming with the LED lights as part of the base 2016 upgrade. Just check another website and it does state the LED's are part of the tech package. Still think it's a ripoff.

Its important to note there are two headlight options on the 2016 GT.

The "old" xenon headlights with the adaptive swivel that turn the lights into corners. Mazda calls this "AFS" and it is described here: http://www.mazda.com/technology/safety/active_safety/afs.html

New for 2016 are the LED headlights with adaptive on/off technology. These lights selective turn certain LEDs on and off depending on the detection of other cars. Also note that the DRLs and tail lights may still be LEDs regardless of which headlight you have.

I wish I can tell you for certain which models and which packages get you which lights, but like I said, I haven't seen official spec for US released in full. I have seen Australian and Canadian specs, so I know the features are right ... just not the combos for the US market.

The xenons are no longer an option on the 2016's. Also, the LED's are not adaptive, they just use an LED in place of a xenon bulb, similar to the Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50, and a lot of newer cars. The adaptive function is the same as on the 2013-2015's with xenons, aka left and right movement, and if the tech package is selected, auto high beam on/off. Fully adaptive headlights with local dimming are banned by the NHTSA, which is why Audi, BMW and other brands like that that offer fully adaptive headlights in Europe can't offer them here. http://www.psmag.com/nature-and-tec...egulations-keeping-us-seeing-well-night-94963
