Hey all, just wanted to say that if you have a 2003/2004 Alpine HU that the Alpine KCA-420i iPod adaptor DOES work even though the literature and a Crutchfield tech said it wouldn't work. My deck is a CDA-9815. I think you just need to make sure you have a Ai-Net capable deck. The 420i unit mounts nice and neat above and to the right of the glovebox (after removing the glovebox of course) and there is plenty of cable to get into the glovebox where the iPod is mounted. It sounds VERY good - even better than the Aux-in version I was using before.
The only downside is that the deck will only display up to 255 songs in a playlist, but will play more (just doesn't display them). Speed of scrolling is a bit slow if you need to go through dozens of tracks to find the song you want.
This probably won't help too many people since most retain the factory HU, but this might help someone out there...
