iPod for Tech Package... is there hope?

No no! You must give up Fox News! ;)

I doubt the wiring is there for the camera -- the car comes from Japan either with the Tech Package or without... it's not dealer-added, so that makes me think it's a significant install process. I doubt highly they take the time to put the wiring in for the camera but not the camera itself. But really, running the wire is the easy part for any good installer.

It is a great feature though... I considered it a must-have with this car. If I DO go and put the Alpine in I'll be sure the reverse camera can also be viewed when the car is in drive, if possible (on the tech package you can only see that view when the car is in reverse). I saw in Japan they can get side-view mirror cameras too... with the blind spots on this car I'd LOVE that.

I live in NY... on Long Island... home of the traffic jam. LOL

Don't you ever sleep? You're last posting was made at 1:02 AM.

I just got a email from my friend in corporate, and he said "he heard it will be available very soon, and he will give me a ETA".

Well I'm forced to wait it out on going aftermarket for now (dash kits aren't available yet), so I'll be interested to see what Mazda's option is going to be.

I know this does nothing for Ipod control, but I have been told that using the Sirius box you can integrate audio into the system. I do not have specifics but I have been told it is possible.

When you figure it out, can you let us all know? (friday)

Sam from AV Electronic.com says that you can use the sirius box as the audio input for the factory system you just need someone capable of tapping into the box. I assume they could do it for you for a fee I just can't justify buying the box just as an interface.

IPOD Interface with Tech Pckg

Is it just me or does anyone else find this whole Ipod with Tech pckg to be utterly ridiculous. How the heck can Mazda sell a high priced "tech pckg" and leave out the ability to have an ipod interface. Its a total contradiction with regard to the name of the package, I mean how can they call it a tech package when they themselves cant figure out how to interface the IPOD - WTF(spank)

I am very disappointed with this aspect of the car, I mean look at how many other auto manufactuers have stepped up and managed to deal with this issue. Here we are in 2007 and Mazda is working on it......give me a break what a bunch of crap(argh)

just my 2 cnts

You've echoed the sentiments that countless others have expressed here.

One of the single most common pieces of portable technology on the planet (the iPod) and by "upgrading" to the technology package, you're locked-out of hardwired integration of that device. Well-played! :)

I check over at Neo's site every week or two for updates on THEIR ability to give a hardwired iPod connection to a CX-7 with tech/Nav... but it remains as "coming soon"... and so... we wait.

tic... tic... tic...

:D

I just ordered my CX-7 with the ipod Kit. I am in Australia. While I know it doesn't show song name etc, it will give me some good sound quality I hope. Will let you know how I go.

Anything new on this??? I'm seriously comparing the RDX and CX7 and right now the RDX is winning based on the BlueTooth and IPod adaptability...

First, the Easter Bunny needs to hand it off to Santa...

All kidding aside, I think they're in a strange situation. Basically, most (all?) of the after-market connectors utilize a/the CD-Changer port on head units... BUT... the TechPackage having the DVD-Nav, it already USES that port.

Not sure why they cannot tap-into the Sirius (Satelite Radio) port to get access between the head-unit and the iPod... maybe they CAN, but just have not traveled that avenue yet.

Not sure it's really just on Mazda... a LOT of companies come-together to make that TechPackage what it is. It's basically integrating AM, FM, CD changer, DVD-Nav, Satellite radio, steering wheel controls, backup camera, microphone for voice input, microphone for "Audio Pilot", and getting info from the lights, transmision and lord knows what-else. Mazda does not make all of the parts that feed-into the system and it's difficult to manage multiple vendors and project teams that are not under YOUR roof and that might not even have YOUR project as a priority.

Who knows what they're gonna do...? Not me.
But I do wait... hoping for the best.

the thing that's the craziest about this is that as far as I understand we have the same nav system that's in the 3 and 6 and they at least have an aux line in for ipod use... Also the Mercury Mariner has the same thing and the same nav. It's just stupid that they didn't think to add that to this vehicle. I'm starting to get really pissed at having to use an FM modulator!

Tell me about it. I took the CX-7 to two car stereo places last week hoping they could somehow install a aux. jack (when I bought the car, the dealer told me it would be easy - what a crock). Anyway, after that my ipod totally died anyway, so now the need for an ipod adaptor has been supplanted by the need for a working ipod. Anyway, enough rambling - what I really wanted to tell you was about the FM modulators....I received an XM radio as a gift, and their FM modulator clips directly onto the FM antenna. It's ugly, but a big improvement in sound quality over the crummy modulator I had been using for my ipod (Monster iCarPlay). There may be something similar that works with an ipod. I'll look into it and let you know if I find anything.

RDX vs CX7

As nice as the CX7 is, my advice is to go for th RDX. I still have buyers remorse for not stepping up into the RDX. This fuking ipod issue really pisses me off combined with the hot air issue of vents, the funky smell eminating from the cars exhuast, having to take the car back to the dealer for programing of the auto lock. Having to manually lock and unlock the car and the cruise control that stays on till you shut it off regardless of how many times you cycle the ignition. Oh and did I forget to mention that the bottle holders in the doors are only capable of holding "small" bottles (20oz or less) tell me who drinks small ones ...... lots of stupid things that just piss me off on a 32k car. Oh one more thing, no window tint on the windshield. The RDX is more luxury appointed and worth the extra bucks..

Fun factor in the CX is GREAT, but the other short comings are not for gotton.
