iPod Classic crashes in my car

Hello.
I put an iPod Classic in my CX5. It has worked for years in my RAV4 so I am surprised that it keeps crashing and not playing in the new car.
The Infotainment display shows the iPod in sound source. And, the song that should be playing displays when I select the iPod. But after that nothing and I have to reboot the iPod. The next time I start the car and select the iPod it again crashes. I am not sure if this is an Apple issue or a Mazda issue.
Any thoughts will help. Thanks

How old is it? Check for latest firmware on everything and try a different cable.

As Craigo said, use a different cable and if possible an original Apple. Many new cars are very selective when using generic cables, giving different errors or not recognizing the device.

I traded in my iPod Classic for a iPod touch. That works a lot better. Thanks for the feedback
