Invisible bra

Invisible Car Bra

Hey, Im looking into getting an invisible bra for my car, something like Xpel. I know a few people here have used stuff like this. About how much does a typical installation cost, and how long does it take? Are there any special things you have to do to take care of it? Also, I was wondering how long it lasts, and if the paint underneath will fade differently from exposed paint. I really dont want to end up with a big line of faded paint next to normal paint on my hood. Thanks.

Head over to NASIOC and you'll find lots of information. The following are the main companies that offer this product.

Rockblocker.com
Xpel.com
Stonguard.com

I just got the 3M film put on my hood today. I looked into companies like Xpel.com Stonguard.com that make kits, to cover the bumper, front of hood, and mirrors. They are nice, but expensive. The one I was looking at was going to be $500 installed plus tax. On 3M's web page I found an installer search tool. I called a couple of guys and decided on one who does the work for dealers and out of his home on the side. He's been doing it for 10 years and had good references. He buys bulk film from 3m and custom cuts it to your car. I had him cover the first 12" of hood and the mirrors. I figure the plastic bumper deals with rocks better then the metal hood. Cost was $139 out the door which seems reasonable. He did it in about 45 minutes while I waited.

I did research this and did not find many complaints from people who have it. I do believe that your paint may fade less under the film, but did not find anything definitive on that. The film is more visible on dark paint then light, but then, so are chips. As for care, you can wax it if you are carefull by the edges and corners. I have read of some people installing this themselves, and literaly every one has said to have an installer do it. Hopefully I will be happy with it over time.
