inverting subwoofers (noise)

I'm planning on running my subs (2-10s) in a custom box... and i have determined that the best way to maximize space in my trunk is to have them facing out... has anyone ever done this and noticed any significance in coil or subwoofer mechanical noise? i know there is some, but is it significant? thanx

I have done it numerous times with numerous subs and never has it been an issue. Or has there been any increased motor noise.

about the only difference in inverting the sub is that you can see it and run a slightly smaller box, other than that, its the same.

i agree, no negative effects, i plan on inverting the Boston Pro 12.5 LF i have when i actually have time to work on my own frickin car and not everyone else's

I had my Pro sub inverted and it was the only time they sounded 1/2 way decent .

Funny you mention that. There is a 13W7 in a JL box just sitting in the bay. I think it was a special order peice for a customer but they didn't like it. Probably do to the idoit salesmen we have that have been known to convince people W7s will be fine WAY underpowered.

No the BAs just have ZERO output and will break up very easily. They need a shitload of power to stay together but will not bless you with much output. Thats why for the most part tweeter made them specail order only. People bought them thinking they would pound when anythign is further from the truth. They are truely more of a musical instrument then a sub and thats not what most people want.

personally, i think the W7 is way overmarketed, and as you said, salesmen have convinced people that they're an SPL sub, when in fact, JL designed them to have the most accurate tonal reproduction around (i dont think they achieved it)....for pure bass output, i'd go DD, hands down...i've tortured my 9015 endlessly and haven't had a single problem....i dont want something that massive in the back of my P5 however, i have the 323 to ***** out spl style (again)....perhaps i'll want one or both of those BA's from you in a couple of weeks....commission work sucks for the beginning of a school year, we've been f'n slow lately...although i did quote a guy $1000 for a ported box for three L7 15's in a suburban running off a Zapco 9.0....now there's some potential loud s***

What do you think of the kicker reccomended sized ported boxes. I built one for a 12" L5 and was not impressed.

we use a kicker made enclosure on our show floor to demo the 12" L5 or L7 (whichever is loaded at the time) and that box is very impressive. it stands vertically with the woofer plane at 45 degrees and the port at the bottom firing out the front. the low end extension is great, although tonal reproduvction isn't too accurate. but for selling bass to the homeboys, it works great

i have a buddy doing a 148-149 with a single Solo L7 8 in a ported box...in a stock 85 honda civic (stock alternator/battery, etc and no interior mod's)

that's very feasible, since the L7 8's have almost the same surface area as a 10. and with a 10 i did a 147.2 in a box tuned for SQ, with an SQ sub stock everything, except red top under the hood loudest i've heard of with 8's was 4 memphis entry level 8's doing something in the low 170's
