Intermittent Wiper Stalk

The MPV has variable int. wipers so you have a whole range of settings and speeds to choose from vs the 1,2, and INT

:D

it is the best and easiest mod yet! nothing like variable speed, especially in rainy and snowy areas!!

ok ok 5 minutes... but really, it is only 3 screws underneath the column, and two once it is open. It took me longer to open the packaging that the stalk came in than to install it...

if y'all want i can do a how to for this seeing as there is not one with pics around anymore.....it isn't that hard but if you all think it would be useful i will do it...

If you have the time, I say go for it. The more how-tos with pics, the better for the forum!

On my other thread, rktktpaul provided some information. Here is the quote "A variable intermittent wiper control lever can be installed to provide fine tuning
of the time interval of the intermittent wiper setting. Unfortunately, no direct "bolt
on" upgrade for the 1st and 2nd generation Proteg's exist. The MX-3 parts will
not work either, since the control hubs are a very different design. The European
spec 1st generation's control switches will fit into the car, but is not electrically
compatible directly. The wiring will have to be extensively modified for the
controls to work. Fortunately, as part of the corporate cost cutting measures,
some of the parts from the MPV, Tribute, and European 626 are interchangable
with the 3rd generation Proteg's. Of those parts, the wiper controls from those
cars can be swapped into the 3rd generation Proteg's. The control lever from
the 97-02 European 626 sedan will fit into all 3rd generation sedans. This part
must be imported from an importer. Only the control lever from the 99+ MPV,
2000+ Tribute, or 97-02 European 626 wagon/hatchback will work with the
Proteg 5 and can be purchased locally. The part numbers are:
GE6M-66-128 variable intermittent wiper lever (from 97-02 Euro 626 sedan)
GE6V-66-128 variable intermittent wiper lever with rear wiper control (from
99+ MPV, 00+ Tribute, 97-02 European 626 wagon/5 door hatchback)"
Hope it helps.

All I did was provide information posted on TheMAN's Protoge faq page. Edwin deserves all the props.

Protege, Protege, Protege . . . (continues to write 500 times)

I found a yard on this site that I bought mine from. $37 shipped. For the part description you want a column switch. After the initial search it will ask which switch, select column mounted, wiper switch (R).

Hope this helps someone

Do yourself a huge favor and just go to Mazdastuff.com. For $85 bucks they'll have a brand new one at your door delivered by the ugly brown truck in 2 days. :p

Check the local junkyards, I got mine from a wrecked Escape for $30 and it is as good as new. The part is the same for PR5, MPV, Tribute and Escape as long as it's a 01 or later model. Why waste your money on a new one?

I now have a new question... would the Wiper Stock from the Mazda3 Sport work with our Protege5? Sport version cuz it has the back wiper too...

Well, it would probably be about the same price as the MPV/Tribute wiper, at least $85, possibly more. I've found 2 in my local junkyard in the last month, both of them were about $50. Also, the MPV/Tribute wiper switch is a lot easier to find too.
