Intermittent display of E-brake warning light

Hi all,

I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question but it seems most appropriate. Lately when under moderate to heavy braking my emergency brake light indicator illuminates and can stays on for short or long periods of time. Each time it happens the brake lever is completely down and I try to cycle it when stopped but it will not extinguish the warning light. Any thoughts?

have you checked your brake fluid level in the brake fluid resevoir?
Bingo...Low brake fluid level caused by one of two things.
1.Normal Wear.... of the pads causing the fluid to be drawn into the lines to make up for pad thickness...This means its probably close to time for some brake pads at a minimum.
2.Leak...Cause by a leak in the system somewhere....not likely but possible.

I would say you have experienced normal wear and it is time to inspect and possibbly replace your brake pads and possibbly rotors...or at least have them turned while replacing the pads.

Anyone know the typical lifespan of the pads?
No such thing....Typical depends on the drivber and your habits...probably about 25K - 30K miles for fronts.

hah! they can last easily 60k if you don't drive like an idiot... I can attest because I have 61k on my car on ORIGINAL pads

lol!
Are you sure you're not driving on metal? haha! I mean when I was at 40k miles it looked like my pads had some life in them.....20-30%....but when I was changing my wheel baring at my mechanic's shop, he said that I need new pads......(keep in mind this is MY mechanic...good friends with my father blah blah blah so he never scams me...pretty straight forward guy)...so we changed the pads within next hour and yea i looked at my original pads and they had a hair-thin layer of life left in them......I had to cut the rotors 'cause my pads ****** 'em up.

Well youy seem to be the exception..do note I said there is NO "TYPICAL" milage to expect...It does truly rely on your driving style..give me your car for one afternoon..your 61K mile pads will need changed..no doubt about it..
now ..MR. Man....would you like to re-phrase your statement..thanks...for once....you are not completely right.

yes it ABSOLUTELY deppends on someone's driving habbits.....you can use car in front of you as your brakes for all I know.....I mean I use my brakes along with downshifting....that kinda saves brakes but then again, I drive mostly on highways but still end up changing brakes within 35-40k miles

Brake fluid solution worked. I tend to be pretty easy on my brakes and at 41k do not notice any problems.
