2006 Miata GT. hopefully 3s GT soon
I've currently got an 06 Miata that has RX-8 sways on it. I was thinking of future mods for the 3, and to reduce understeer a bit, would like a stiffer rear bar. I realized the 3 shares it's platform with the 6 and cx5. I'm wondering if the sway bars from the 6 would fit on the 3. Admittedly the 6 is 1.2 and 1.4 inches wider, (f-r) but it might be possible... Thoughts?

edit: I'm assuming the cars have both. don't know at this point

From the description of the i-Active design and manufacturing philosophy, the same design is used in wider/shorter, longer/shorter cars/suv. The cost reduction comes mostly from having one design, kind of one platform, but one they can scale based on the vehicle they make. That's interesting compared to many manufacturers building one platform and manufacturing many vahicles on the same identical platform.
Anyway, narrower means things should not fit.
I highly recommend this (a little old) great Mazda document. http://altairenlighten.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Mazda-Skyactive-lightweight.pdf
There was also a presentation of Mazda3 2014 to journalists by Mazda with some tech guys talking. That fit exactly what this pdf described.
So for instance for the engines, they are scaled based on displacement required, with almost no common parts between a smaller and a bigger engine. It seems that this makes engineering and engines tuning much easier. The efficiency in manufacturing of the engines is also really cool.

Gotcha, so its just that the platform is scalable not identical size wise. Makes sense. I know what you mean about should not fit since it is narower , however the mx5 is narrower by .4 and .6 than the rx8, yet the sways were interchangeable, that's why I thought time check this one. Thanks!

I would think the aftermarket will be releasing thicker rear anti-roll bars pretty quickly. I'll likely get one for mine before too long.
